So, the official entry pages on gameartisans finally went up, and it was just the kick in the butt I needed to actually make my first post. I'm not really active on any forum in particular, though I hope to change that, and I really like the Polycount community. So here I am, and here is my DWIV entry before its too late:

Since they opened the competition up to mechanical characters this year, I've decided to go with it and do a cyborg. Somewhere early in my idea process, I had the idea of doing a cyborg centaur. I spent the early days of the competition refamiliarizing myself with horse anatomy and came up with some early concepts:

With alchemy as a body type sillhouette test:

And them some quick sketches to see if the idea "worked":

Figuring out the skeleton:

I wanted the organic part of the body to be creepy, and I wanted to keep the horse part mechanical:

Working towards my final head idea, referencing a lot of goats, focusing on the teeth:

For the body of the horse, I looked at a lot of clydesdales because of how tall they are. I do want a tall character, but I'm still playing around with bulk.

I'm into the sculpt now, that will be posted soon.

Feel free to make suggestions. I'm happy to now be officially a part of the Dominance War this year. I feel like I learned a lot last year and I'm ready for the challlenge. :)

I started out with Z-spheres, which I recorded the beginning of with a Zbrush movie. The purpose of this sculpt was to use it as a template later on. It was sort of a transition between concept and final and I worked on the proportions here.

For the lower body, I'm still working out designs for that as I go, but here were my early concepts:

This is more towards where I will be going, with a frame structure underneath and armoured pieces on top revealing it:

Shaping up nicely, i like the fact you sketched the skeleton too. The techy parts are looking great so far. Keep going!

    yeah nice start!

You know, an all organic design kind of lends itself to this. I really want to see cloth and weird clothing and stuff on this guy. But if it has to be a cyborg, so be it!

Great sketches about all the mechanical stuff. Love the concept. IMO it looks a little bit uneven. He has this very cool, strong and big lower body and then the upper body looks very small in comparison. My 2 cents.

    Cheers!
