Hello Everyone!
Getting started on the DW goodness a little late but I'm really excited about this year, this is also my first time participating in DW. For the competition I am going to create a demon abomination. I have been mulling over a few ideas and I really want to pursue a bug inspired mammal that is a total beast.
Here is my first attempt at a few sketches, there are some smaller wormlike sketches there but I didn't really like how they were looking.
I thought my first antelope, beetle, thing creature was too boring so I sketched up another.
I used alot of animal inspiration and reference for this. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated! I look forward to kicking some butt with you all.

If you're not going to have somebody/thing ride him I'd push the back a bit. Seems like wasted retail if you don't cover it in spikes or dogs heads or dogs heads that when they bark they shoot bees out of their mouths.
try shifting the design with a few different heads.
A suggestion about the head, since the lower body is horse like, maybe try to make the demon head look like a horse skull or an elk skull. Ah just some food for thought.
And one last thing, keep in mind that the anatomy for a creature like that would have to have a really large spinal column where the two different body types meet.
See how large the horse's spine is near its shoulders? Make them much larger in order for the muscles of the upper body to connect to the lower body, and keep them both stable and strong.
Esh sorry I'll get off my soap box hope I helped a little!
I tried another angle on the beast and added some much needed detail to the horse area of the beast.
I was not really happy with the way it turned out and decided to try out a different body type. Here it is after a trace paper overlay and a re-sketch.
Here are some more angles on the beast.
Unfortunately I sketched all of these up before I got the chance to look at all of the wonderful comments people left me. Killaball, I really agree with you about exploring a few more head options and those will be included in my next batch of sketches. Thanks again everyone, there is more to come!
