Hey, it works with the ugly guy who gets the girl eventually.
haha, that's funny cause the one time I saw that happen in real life, the girl wanted to marry the guy so she could get a green card.
Maybe that's a good idea shotgun. Find yourself a nice Jewish girl that's a US citizen, and knock her up. Better load up on shaving razors before that though.....OH SNAP!
artsy man, shotgun is a widely respected and long standing polycounter. he has every right to post this thread, and he's looking for a job, not advice about what to do. I suggest if you or anyone else wants some stimulating discourse on foreign labour, make a new thread about it
ArtsyFartsy - Do you realize how easy it is to shoot yourself in the foot?
I wish you the best shotgun, such talent should have no trouble finding an employer.
In this desperate time there are far less talented artists then you that are employed, so why not you? I hope you find what you're looking for.
Enough. If you have nothing productive to add to this thread, don't add anything. A fellow community member is asking for help and all you people can do is argue like old women and 5-year-olds. Anything further that is not related to this thread will be removed and the offending poster will receive a 7-day ban from the boards. No questions asked.
Wow, your site has some serious content. Honestly, shotgun, just start sending your resume to every game company that you would consider working for. You're making some quality textures and skins. There has to be a company out there that would offer you a job.
Also, thank you to everyone in this thread who has been posting links to sites that collect game company information and job offers. I'm gonna be adding some new favorites links to my browser when I get home!
Hey Eyal, I asked again and unfortunately we don't have a position open just for a texture artist ( even one as skilled as you ) I know that some companies specialize, and those are the ones that you might try hitting, like Blizzard/Epic and so on. Problem with smaller companies is that they want to have an artist that runs the gambit of abilities ( even if it goes to the jack of all trades master of none route ) Vigil is another place that you might try, and maybe sending Bobo an email just to see if he might know of further possiblities. Hope the best for you friend, and keep your head above water.

P.S: I hope that those that turned this thread into something other than helping a fellow polycounter in need, never finds themselves in a similiar situation. As it's pretty pathetic where we can't take a moment to try and help someone.
Ok, I apologize if I sounded obnoxious or insensitive before, but I was just trying to make a realistic assessment of his situation. Times is very rough, and the dude needs to be open minded about his options.
And also LinkedIn http://www.linkedin.com/ - I've found the networking aspect of it to be useless, but there's a lot of recruiters lurking, and job postings. Join the gamedev group.
Heck, my company is currently looking for an enviro artist for a couple of months of freelance, but you have to have 3d skills.
Let me ask you shotgun, you say you don't do 3d but you must know at least a little. I mean have you never opened a copy of 3ds max or maya, or are you just not very proficient at 3d props?
I personally just spent a year looking for work, and when my current contract is over I'll be right back where i started. Even without the recession this business is shitty. There's no stability, the schedule is erratic, and if you're working freelance you have no benefits. We all have big dreams about making our own spectacular games, but what most of us will end up doing is designing boring environments, according to some guy's specifications who we probably never met, with almost no creative expression.
The camaraderie you guys have shown is commendable, but fact of the mater is that hiring managers don't really give a damn about you and your "situation" (not you shotgun, I'm saying in general), and without a lot of luck, and good connections, you won't get anywhere.
That's why you have to keep an open mind about your options. Can you get something in advertising? Web Design? Printing poster? Anywhere. When you're hanging off a cliff you can't afford to be picky about what kind of branch you grab on to, to save yourself.
unfortunatily im unable to offer any advice or help whatsoever other than whats already been posted, however you have my support. I hope all works out for you.
