I'm a huge Static fan, from way back to the Wisconsin Death Trip Days. Seen em live multiple times and even had a couple of times where I've been able to chat with Wayne and them after shows. They don't take themselves too serious and are just a fun band to listen to. But after Start A War they've been going downhill.
What happened to the singing and vocal stuff that Wayne was doing on Shadowzone and Start a War? I was hoping that this would be better than Cannibal but this album is just horrible. Wayne's vocals are boring and monotonous, he doesn't change pitch at all. There's just nothing interesting going on with any of these songs, save for Grind to a Halt. If I was told that this was a collection of songs that didn't make the Cannibal album I'd believe it. I had high hopes for this but stripped down, boring Static-X just can't compare to the fun industrial metal they used to do.
They'll be coming here in the next month or so. I'm debating whether I want to see them again. They always put on a great show, but this time I guess it'll depend on what the set list is like for this tour.
still need to check it out a bit, but its def. not what they used to be.
instrumentals are still awesome, but the vocals lost something.
push it, i am, its not coming back
its all quite understandable, if you use your vocals in a way like this, its guaranteed they get fucked up at some point.
I really liked how they were experimenting with actual singing in Shadowzone. Then I was unimpressed with Start A War. This is leaving me with the same feeling.
Yeah, while Static-X were never trying to reinvent the wheel, they did what they did well. You can't be too serious when you have a whole song about taking a shit on the tour bus (In a Bag), but that's why I liked them. When you saw them live and talked to them you got a sense that they were enjoying what they were doing and that's what I like to see in a musician. That they're doing it for themselves and having fun.
One time in Austin I had a chance to talk to Wayne for a good period of time about the music biz and stuff like that and was impressed about how he was pretty honest and forthcoming about things. This was right after Shadowzone came out and he mentioned how he knew their single, The Only, was a radio styled song, but unfortunately that was something they had to do to play the game.
I know this new cd is inspired by Wayne's wife Tera Wray, but I don't know, I have a hard time understanding how Mr. Static can say that this was more of a return to Wisconsin Death Trip.

Shadowzone was the perfect album for me followed by Wisconsin Death Trip.
Oh, and they're all short. They were at our BloodRayne 2 release party since it was in the Head Bangers Ball VIP area.
My favorite song of theirs was 'Push It', but I hated almost everything since Wisconsin Death Trip.
This new stuff sounds alright, but nothing spectacular IMO.
Is the singer the brother of Rob Zombie?
Nope (unless that has changed... can't see the videos here at work). The lead singer of Powerman5000 was Rob's bro. Or he has two brothers
