Bit late to start but here goes...
I'll either refine this some more or try a few more thumbs. Can't decide on cyborg or warmachine, but I'll definitely be doing a machine. I wanted to have the chest open up to reveal some organic parts inside - perhaps a veteran from a past war who was so badly mangled he had to be inserted into a machine to continue fighting. Not sure the whole 'AI for cyborgs' stipulation allows for that though...
I also want to add some kind of cannon apparatus on his back but none of my scribbling has worked that out yet.

Buut, the conflicting designs of metal vs. natural is odd to me. I'd llove it if the banner were created using scrap metals, machinery, chains, etc. etc. rather than, what looks like, spears, stone and fabric(s).
I like the design. I will say it's nothing new, but not in a bad way, kinda like reinventing a classic. The design is overall aesthetically pleasing and it looks like you have enough little details in there to make it interesting. I would say go with war machine, play up the scale and forget the fleshy bits.
i wouldn't be so fast to dismiss the flag stuff, but if it's going to be quite so dominating a feature visually, why not go whole hog on it? do a little research on the subject of standard bearers and the like, and then push the design as far as you can in that direction. what does a robot wholly given over to carrying a massive, billowing flag look like? how could it have offensive capabilities?
i don't worry about your design acumen given you're responsible for some of my favorite designs from back when... good luck.
Flag looks a bit out of place right now imho, just re-iterating what 's been already said. Gauss raises a few good points.
Will you finish this?! I hope you will!
Gauss: I think I'm going to try to 'personalize' the flag stuff more, bring it down to a more individual level with smaller banners/trophies rather than the standard bearer warhammer influenced 'bigness' of what's there now. I think there's more room to play there, and it will also keep focus on the character.
Joe: less posty more sketchy
martin: where's yours? =]
Here's a quick backstory too:
The army of the greentooth honors its dead - that is, when they are actually allowed to die. Ages ago, sometime after the first dominance war, the army began to repurpose its fallen generals and heroes and prolong their lives even after death or debilitating injuries - enabling them to continue fighting. Often the bodies of the fallen were too badly mutilated to effectively continue fighting without prosthetic aid. Thats when the Legion of the Metal Fist was created. A new mechanized army sustained and fueled by the technology of war, driven by the combat prowess and fighting spirit of the armys greatest heroes. Replacing meat with machinery, and AI patched into the savage soul of a warrior, the fallen are given a new lease on destruction - one that can last for millennia, or until they are obliterated.
Killian BanHammer is one such fallen, having centuries ago been rendered limb from limb on the battlefield and unable to fight, his military achievements and prowess in battle could not be left to waste. He was revived, and placed in a new (in those days) Ground Pounder X1 mech body and unleashed back into the war. In this new form he has achieved several lifetimes worth of victories and caused untold levels of devastation across hundreds of worlds.
Ground Pounders are fast moving mobile infantry suits capable of running into battle from a distance. Armed with long range mortars on their backs they bombard strategic targets from a distance then rush in and clean up with their favored weapons. Killians weapons of battle include a nuclear powered battle hammer, and 2 twin mounted machine guns in each arm.
Sweet mech!
Do you plan to deck up the robot a bit to make it look more celebrated, like a royal coffin almost? Just throw in some contradiction there...the guy's been laid to rest, and yet he's made to keep fighting. Maybe take a cue from the Egyptians, where they throw a likeness of the vessel's contents on the box itself. Keep going man!
Singer88: yeah I think I'm going to play with the shapes some more once the mesh is blocked out, so don't write the big hand off yet. =]
I am still working on it =] It's in the queue back there somewhere =]
In the meantime, here are some cats!
I wanted to say "aww", but these are cats for food.
