Ah, Luxury's mentioning UNKLE reminds me of something else that's excellent: The Flashbulb, Soundtrack to a Vacant Life. Very varied, yet cohesive as an album. And the artist actually has something interesting to say if you read his words about it.
edit, the sequel, director's cut: Magyar posse, they make postrock with a progrock edge to it.
And I can't believe I forgot Zombi! One of my favourite bands.
You can check a lot of these out on hypem.com and last.fm, by the way.

Anathema's later records are actually pretty mellow, and very good to listen to while working.
Yes Jon Brion is a musical genius! He's amazing at the Largo here in LA. Definitely worth seeing. He taught himself to play guitar left handed cause he had carpel tunnel surgery a few years ago. He plays piano like a pro, stands up grabs a guitar, etc. It's insane.
Yeah, Jon Brion certainly made a few absolute gems, although I can't help but feel that not all of his stuff is equally good.
Oh, one more thing to check out:

Was probably mentioned but how about some blizzard goodness?
Echoes of war. http://www.echoes-of-war.com/
Over ninety minutes of orchestral music including exclusive arrangements from World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, StarCraft: Ghost, StarCraft II and Diablo III!
I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with Bear McCreary but he was responsible for the amazing score to Battlestar Galactica. That said he was also responsible for the TV score to Terminator The Sarah Connor Chronicles. You can listen to the first OST here:

Also from what I read I believe he plays all of the instruments and lays them on top of each other?

Bad thing is, some of the songs are like 55 seconds long, so repeat runs this soundtrack.

This is a beautiful score and ranks right up there with the BSG season 2 OST! This guy is quickly becoming my favorite composer.
