Alright ... I'm nervous. Really.
But anyway this is going to be my DW4 entry and my first DW entry at all
Ok the background story for now:
Millenia of warfare on the homeplanet of this species has caused for them to augment their bodies. Much like the Spartan empire the hatchlings are inspected and seperated, those who will live a life of servitude and slavery, and those who will grow up to be fighters.
At an early age augmentation begins, in combination with combat and survival training, after each milestone in the training a major defining augmentation is added. In their (what we call) 'tweens' it is ffnally deceided as for what role they shall have in the army. After a rite of passage (life or dead survival) spefici trainign and enhancements continue.
After an ancient and holy ritual their final augmentations are blessed and sanctified with the blood of the enemies and to be finally activated.
By now the individual has undergone an extreme transformation, from hatchling, to final enhanced cyborg. All major organs have been replaced with replacement systems. Their skeleton has been streghtened with carbonium injections and the skin has been toughened up with nano technology. Finally at their prime, and at the cost of their 'humanity'they are ready to wage in the war of their people.
"Nade" (that's how I'm calling him) is going to be a Cyborg grenadier.
Equipped with a powerful throwing arm and two different types of grenades (small and big spheres) he's the ideal unit for defense and siege. The curved launcher is going to be used for long distance throwing. The hand for short distances. Using both arms he's able to throw bigger objects like rocks, wrecks etc.
The device in his mouth converts his scream/roar (whatever
) into a sonar like signal he uses for distance measure.

Alright so here a the first sketches showing the first thoughts.

The throwing arm. First ideas and scribbles.
Pesti suggested to combine the curved launcher with the mechanic hand and did a quick paintover.
Personally I really like the idea.
I'm currently working on a proxy model I will use as a guide for the whole character. Makes it easier to place things.

Well, you know what I think of this already, so I'll just say, kick ass stuff!
Personally really like the heads with the mechanical devices in the mouths. Can't wait how this turns out in 3d.

The curved throwing arm was inspired by a sport called Jai Alai

1st and 2nd heads on your study sheet look good. I think you need to break the typical Hellknight silhouette and proportions, though. You're onto something.
I got an update. Sorry it took a while (Uni is driving me nuts at the moment).
Yeah, originally he was a creature which had a pretty hellknightish shape before he was transformed into an instrument of war.
I created a rough proxy model to mess around with to get the basic shapes done.
I'm going to replace a lot with artificial muscles and tech stuff. Especially the legs are going to get some major changes. The mech hands are just in place to check out how they would intersect with the rest of the silhouette.
On the final model they're going to be asymmetrical. The throwing arm and the shield.
I took the second head on the sheet and created the basemesh.

I continued with the hard surfaces and started to replace/add the muscles.
In the next days I'll start adding flesh/skin to the surfaces. Hope to finish the highres model by the end of next week.

r4ptur3, yeah there is still a bunch of work left in that region. I'm going to give him a tech spine and kind of artifical (propably fiber reinforced) rectus abdominis. I'm on it
But fortunately I passed the last two exams
There is still some work left on the highpoly.
I'm thinking about making the toes mechanical like the fingers. But I'm not sure

If you do, maybe compensate the underbite by decreasing the angle of the upper lip, shifting it to match the top left head study you put up. That may fix the relationship of the helmet as well.
Don't forget to put a glowing greenskin logo on the grenades! That launcher is wicked. Cheers!

I put the lower jaw back a little bit instead of moving the forehead to the front though. Hope you don't mind
I got the highpoly and lowpoly finished. With 9970 tris for everything it's pretty close
The lowpoly with normalmap and ao map applied
And the final highpoly model which was pretty painful for my machine due to the high polycount
Now it's time to paint

Unleashed, it's a simple Mental Ray setup with a few spotlights, the ao in the diffuse channel and with the normal map applied.
Pretty hard to find a balance between sunshine outside and sitting in front of PC
