Hi everyone. Im new here on Polycount, but since I'm participating in this years DW I though this place would be a great place to show off my stuff.
This will be my first time modeling for games so I'd really appreciate any comments or critique.
So, here follows my first concept. It's supposed to be a Deamon princess, nameless so far though ;P
Her powers are those of death/darkness.

I also thought about doing some sort of pet for her. We'll see what I'll come up with.
Just trying to think of things to make her more interesting at this point...
(I am keeping the wings btw ;P)
My first comment is that for a demon, I find there to be something incredibly soft about her. It might just be your style, but I'd be careful about moving in that direction. The Dom War rules clearly stated that the demons are ruthless beings that kill any and everything in sight. Just make sure to keep that in mind!
From the first concept, I'm really liking the gauntlet and wings. The horns and staff look cool too but could probably be played up more. The skirt looks like it's going in a good direction, but I'd suggest trying to streamline it a bit more. It looks baggy right now, bringing it a bit closer to the body might help the flow and silhouette.
The metal 'tattoo's are a neat touch. Also, your note says that she has heavy make-up, but both drawings look suggestive of her looking very natural. It might not come out until the texturing, but not a bad idea to look at it a bit more during concepting.
A good start, good luck with the competition, and welcome to Polycount!
Yes I can understand what you mean about her softness ;P I can promise that my mental image is quite a bit more evil indeed. I'll definately try do bring it into the next sketch. The idea behind it, and the way i interpretated the rules, was to make her have looks and sexual appeal but still definately be very evil :P
I thought about making her appearance a bit more frightning by maybe adding a few jagged edges and spikes to the armor or something.
Good thinking about the dress... I'll try to make it a bit slimmer.
Thanks for the fast reply!
Nice sketches so far, you seem to have a firm idea of what you want to do already. A good idea though might be to make lots of smaller thumbnails or really rough sketches before you make a decision (and be ready to kill your darlings). But that's just a suggestion.
I really like her, especially the first one, pretty face.
Maybe try make something with the wings, make them stand out from the classic demon wing look.
Will be keeping an eye on this! Good luck!

I thought about thumbnailing, but I never really had that kind of workflow, but I agree, it's absolutely a great way to start off. At this stage im probably just gonna keep working with what I have since i like the general concept. Just trying to make her less generic.
I made a few close ups of her face... trying to sort out where I'm going with this.
First just a clean version:
Then I tried to give her a bit more character:
Finally, I just quickly sketched in a sort of a "crown of thorns"... just to see what it would look like. I actually liked the outcome of this:
Her nose looks a bit flat though, and the teared up cheek makes her feel a bit more towards the abomination class. Have you seen '30 days of night'? I really like
Keep it up!
Sorry for not posting any progress, but hopefully I'll have some wires ready for you soon ;P
I'm still trying to give her a more epic feel. Im probably going to go with more cloth and less armor than my first sketches, but we'll see...
As soon as I'm done with the base I'll bring the parts in to zbrush for some serious sculpting ;P
Ok, so here's just work in progress shot from the front. Still a lot left to do, just blocking out my ideas...:
From the back:
I felt like hooking up a few chains to her back... just to make her feel a bit more tortured ^^ :
And then there's a few shots of the gauntlet I'm working on. Im thinking about making it a bit bigger and more powerful somehow... :
I decided to try out a bit more of an armored look. I just a step back and thought about the overall shape and realised it was a bit too bland so I tried to spice things up a little.
Here's first just a quick sketch for the outlines. I still haven't decided whether or not to have both arms armored or just keep it as in the original sketch...
Here's another wire. Shows some of the armor I've been working on. Very curios to hear what you guys think about it ;P
So, hopefully I'll be able to bring the model into sculpting soon. I dont want to get behind schedule ^^
P.S
I know the model is (a bit) detailed for a basemesh, but i like building things up in Maya and just go with the flow... maybe because I dont really enjoy concepting in 2d too much. Should probably get better at it since it takes up a bit of time trying stuff out in Maya instead... But anyways... Stay tuned for further updates ;P
***** UPDATE*****
Ok, so here's a bit more recent pic. Shows the front with a different skirt and more armor... and of course, changed the wings from the original concept aswell...
***** UPDATE 2 *****
Ok, so I redid the helmet/crown and just finalized a few things. I'm probably gonna stop here and start sculpting in Zbrush if I am to be done in time.
Here's a few more shots:
***** UPDATE 3 *****
Ok.. I'm well aware that I'm far behind schedule, but I've got other projects I have to work with aswell. Anyways ;P Here's a bit of sculpting for you^^ Crits are always welcome!
