Just a few quick comps (war machine/robot). A lot more will follow, still thinkin' shit out (I pretty much never comp my own work). I like the crustacean/insect form for machines, as most of those creatures are very role-specific in what they do, and are built in a rigid manner.



I was really jonesing to make a steampunk spider tank, but...inter-dimensional robots have probably advanced past steam power :P

hey, there's nothing that says you can't make a more retro, steampunk inspired robot. it would add a lot of character. Just don't bring back bad memories of wild wild west now.

God I hate drawing. Okay, so #4 is total ass spew, but whatever. I'm personally leaning towards 6 or 7

Between 6 and 7 I would totally go with 7. 6 doesn't look like it can support its back end and the gun seems like too much of an after thought that was just stuck in place. If you want the spider mech thing I would take the general concept of 5 and work the back end of six into its design. As for 7, it needs something to show that it has a way of hovering like little jet vent things kinda like whats on 6. Or what might be cool is a buch of holes in the shell that have ballons like bulgeing out of them. So its like the shell is containing and protecting some kind of blimp thing on the inside.

I'm really digging 4 & 5. The others are cool too but I think 4-5 have the most potential.

4, has that old tractor look to it, could be really cool mixed with some steam punk?
5, its just cool lookin...

I think following 7 down a bunch of variations may take you down the path you want to go. But steampunk is ridiculously awesome if pulled off right.

I think 7 is the way to go on this one, the hovering aspect just makes it more creepy to me and sells it more. I agree with BDPatton, definitely run through some variations with 7 and I think you'll be good.

The spidery stuff is a bit familiar. Perhaps you could run through a few designs based on different insects and arachnids.

If you want a really scary one though, you can't go past this little guy
