The actual thing I'm going for is a mix of all these, I'm just trying to figure out the last bits of it.
Fat and pregnant (possibly with a birthsac like the Alien queen). 16 thousand yeas old, and broken. Broken wings, possibly giving birth. It'll have two children, one hugging on the neck, the other sucking at a tit.
The skin is covered in ulcers and sores, with some of the innards hanging out. She/It will be wallowing in her/its own shit and afterbirth.
theres something about your 4th sketch that i really like. nice proportions. I should be using Colours on the DS alot more....especially on my commute into work.
Traditional design of the goddess Diana/Artemis. The history guys now think that the things dangling around her neck were actually bull testicles from sacrifices, but whoever made this fountain either didn't know or didn't care.

Yup Jackablade, that image is in my ref folder and is very similar to the chest idea I'm going for - they'll be a bit saggier I reckon.
There are several things in the ref folder that would probably get me banned from Polycount if I posted them. Google Image search, Tentacle demon, safe search off.
I've actually found the PERFECT head. A back to front squid, then I'll add a mouth on the new face created from the top of its head. The arms become dreadlocks. Sorted.
I'm just trying to reconcile the chest and abdomen area now.
The big buddha with little baby buddhas (Or whatever they are) is kind of an interesting idea. Maybe you could have a clutch of babies riding on your big gloopy mother monster like a scorpion or wolf spider.
Jackablade, that's what I was thinking - one suckling on a tit using it's claw tentacles to hang on to mummy monsters flesh, and one hanging round the neck. Maybe one being eaten.
The partners rise from the floor while in amplexus and flip through the water in arcs. During each arc, the female releases 3-10 eggs, which get embedded in the skin on her back by the male's movements. After implantation the eggs sink into the skin and form pockets over a period of several days, eventually taking on the appearance of an irregular honeycomb. The larvae develop through the tadpole stage inside these pockets, eventually emerging from the mother's back as fully developed toads, though they are less than an inch long (2 cm).
Done some Zbrush sculpting, but there are a few elements that need some work, so next up I'll spend some time doing paintovers of what I've got already.
I'm not feeling the love of the eyes at the top, they make it look too goofy.
Cheers Diwan -it's helped me figure out a few things. It's not totally there yet, and I'm unsure about the tendrils coming out between the armour plates.
the bottom row of tits could be inverted into 4 marsupial pouches each containing offspring...except the empty pouch from the eaten baby? perhaps this mother beast takes fallen, runts, or cast away offspring from other specis and raises them as her own, thus creating a tear in the evolution of random species she comes across... good or bad.
the pouches get full of milk from the above looming breasts, the skirt tendrils reach up cleaning the healthy children and strangling the weak. The tendrils are covered in dried breast milk from the constant tending.... the caked on milk beckons protein rich insects which are promptly fed to children of age.
mmmm tendril fed milky insect pieces...
EDIT: the bottom half of her in the front view paint over looks like it could be turned into a picture perfect sea floor. perhaps she roams shalllow waters, she has picked up shells, barnicles, coaral and other sea life, hiding eels ect on her lower half....
Cheers Microneezia - some nice ideas there, the pouches might work well (though not at the expense of tits!).
I'm not going to have her/it picking up runts to look after, but I'm sure it'd quite happily eat any other offspring it came across - it needs to supply proteie to the toungsters somehow! Covering the tentrils in "milk" as an attractor is a great idea.
The back is going to be like the Surinam Toad:
It's a demon whore, it'll mate with anything and the young live under the skin and burrow through when they are ready to emerge.
lovely work Rick. it's really starting to come together now. Looks like it'll be loadsa fun to sculpt. Be cool to see loads of pussy blisters with small nasty creatures in them that burst out. I would maybe change the head position and angle it downward so its tongue could be used to grab things closer to the ground and pull them into its mouth.
those toads are hard to find pics of eh? Ive looked around a lot before in awe of them... there is a youtube video around that has the baby frogs bursting out...
here is a pic from my collection, has a great shot of the holiest of all holies between the legs there...
This is a brand new sculpt over a new base mesh built over the previous doodle (good starting point for the lowres). The twisted tentacles were done using transpose.
A. Kincade : Ta! Still not creepy enought though!
Mongrelman: it's going to be a mix of some standard suckers on some arms (purely for holding), and others will have that hooks. Poisoned hooks would work I reckon.
it has somewhat of a cthulhu vibe to it, which I like but it feels like you are trying to make the character do a million and one different things. I think it would be stronger if you reduced some of the influences and settled on a less is more approach. Keep up the good progress!
something that never fails for nice flab btw, is sculpt it a little too thin, get some nice folds going, and then flood fill the whole lot with a bulge type brush and viola (thats for mighty pea) you got some sharply defined bulging skin
nic stuff rick. ws thinking tht some of the random nodules on the body should be nipples or small tits. nothing to take away from the main 9 events but would make nice random details.
any plans for a milk layer? like the goo from aliens just slightly more opac and better in tea
Rats - texture wise I'm thinking vomit on a zombie.
Shep, the nodules are going to become open sores and cancerous lumps. there will be some kinda goopy layer.
Updates!
Low poly base is built, it'll need some minor adjustments, and I have about 1000 polygons spare at the minute.
more scultping done - mesh insert teeth, claybrush to build up some gums. starting sculpting in some smaller folds. The torso is the next area to attack.

i don't really see defined characters in these thumbs except for the first one
anywho i'm curious of what this will lead to ^^
keep it up

It'll have a 4 way beak, and tentacle dreadlocks.
Oh, and DS Colours is a lovely thing for the bus:

sombody was inspired by total recal.

Good luck with the comp, mate.
Surinam toads

Anyway, basemesh:

i like the feeler tendrils, and the eyes are working better for me now

I like those squid whips, are you going to keep the details squidlike or go nuts with something else?
I googled up a colossal squid's tentacle, nasty nasty

Aye, a bit of masked pinching is required! The area where the clav would be (if it had a clav) is a mess, I'll sort that next time.
cool stuff!
Rooster - cheers, I'll give that a go!
the twisted tentacles look ace, moar!!
Zbrsuh crashed on me and I got angry, so since I'm getting close to the final mass I roughed out the low poly:
its at about 9400 triangles at the minute, so I want to knock some more off so that I can poly in the head details and some 'accessories'.
Next up for the sculpt is to refine the neck folds so that they look less like a scarf, and then I need to work on the boobs and the back spines.

I think splitting the end of the tongue into two or three ends, a bit like a snake, or some sort of barbs would work well.
