not as finished as i'd like concept wise but theres enough here to get me cracking in Max. Will detail up the scythe later. Comments are always welcome.
Not sure if i'll do legs Rick. The other option is to go with just a mass of cloth bloodied and ripped below the waistline. Might make the image a bit more haunting if she's doesn't have legs....just a floating mass. Will try and bash out something more concrete tonight. There's not too much to go on with the sketch as it stands. Undecided about the butterfly wings. Would be good to know what people think.
did this doodle yesterday. playing with the idea of her lower half being a ragged and soaked in blood. perhaps no legs. in the middle of working up something a bit more concrete, but any thoughts people have i'd like to here them. Thanks
yeah i just never painted them on the last sketch. Defo gonna have wings but not sure what type. I like the Butterfly wings....dunno how they'd hold up in battle tho. Might play around with raven wings too. whatever i decide they will be totally messed up and ragged. Blood soaked is a good idea also.
I'm not a fan of having too much flesh on show anyway. It's my intention of layering her up with something more visually interesting. More leather straps and general evil accessories are required.
did some wing tests to help me decide which type to go for. Seeing the butterfly wings next to the others on either side they look decidedly weak. I thought they'd be quite an original concept to go for...but don't think they are as striking as the bird feather or the bat wing designs. What do you guys think?
I'm down with the butterfly wings. You can still make her look badass side instead of cutesy even with the wings. Seriously, bat wings and feathers are too 'easy'. Those are the things that surface on the shallow end of your consciousness when creating a concept. Butterfly wings is definitely making your way to the deeper uncharted areas of "the deep end"
still dragging my heels a bit on the concept side of things. I've decided to go with the bird wings. been reading up a bit on Ravens and their link to Celtic Mythology and Death. Anyway...i'd like to know peoples thoughts on the scythe. I think i'm gonna tray a bow and arrow concept too.
Love the swoopy drawing style Rats! Nice character too, very Blizzard. That scythe looks fearsome, not terribly original, but I like that you continue the bird motif on it.
Rick - I like your suggestion about making the wings an 'astral projection'. I'm definitely starting to think about adding tech to this character. Perhaps bio-mech
Snowfly - Yeah the scythe is a bit un-original. Hopefully adding tech to character will inspire me to come up with a cooler weapon.
Kendo - your comment re-enforces the fact that the concept needs a little more oomph to make it more interesting.
I think this has come together well. The wings are cool and add to profile which is nice. Raven's are one of my favorite birds and I like the idea behind the mythology.
The scythe is nice. It may be "un-original" but the design you have done of it has done it well. I do think if she has wings she'd more than likely be attacking from the air. If that is the case, then the bow and arrows would make for a good weapon set for this. The scythe would more than likely be for a character who is grounded.
Although now that I'm thinking about it, the scythe could be cool for swooping down in on prey. Could possibly use both?
started thinkin more about adding tech into the concept. Did a quick design for possible wing tech. I'm interested in having bits either protruding from flesh or fused with it in someway.
I really love what you have going on here. I would take another pass on her armor and gear to make all the elements cohesive. Right now the arm piece feels sci-fi while the shoulder pad looks fantasy. I dig the wing tech design so if you can carry those aesthetics to the other areas of your character you'll be in good shape.
cheers guys. I'm not 100% sure about this change in direction.
tbh, i'm not the best concept artist, and certainly not fast enough to churn out new ideas quickly. I'm kinda happy with my original direction, leaning more towards fantasy. If i can incorporate some bio-mech stuff without it jarring too much then i'll be chuffed. I'm gonna start modeling the body then maybe attempt paint overs to help cralify my direction.
ok...not posted for a while. lost a bit of focus. Decided to drop all the bio-mech nonsense and focus on the initial concept. There wasn't anything really pushing the demonic side of her character, plus i thought her shape was a bit unexciting so started doodling around the belly area. Thought it would be cool if she was pregnant and carrying some sort of demon seed that bursts out.
Not sure if i'll go with the 'bird' thing. Might have to sit down and really think about what wretched evil s**t it should be.
Although its a total contradiction to everything I said last week I'm thinking it might be best to drop the tech parts. The character has a nice Warcrafty feel that would get diluted down with big tech armour pieces.
I'm loving the pregnant belly a lot more than the burst belly. Also I think the shoulder pad and bracer could be pimpd up a bit more with straps and small details. Looks a little bit plain if you have the intricate feathers everywhere else
If you're taking her into zbrush watch out for the tri's in the crotch area and the feet, they might cause you problems. You might also want use relax to even out the poly distribution. Looking nice and close to the concept, looking forward to seeing all the extra bits
here's a quicky update. Originally i was just going to have a blank face, but I decided to make a mask instead to cover up her demon face beneath. I'll concept this nearer the time of getting it into ZB.
Apologies to anyone interested in the progress of my Dom War entry. I don't want to use my 1 year old kid as an excuse, but he has a large part to play in my slow progress. It is getting there. Hopefully i'll get the wings and the foot things done in the next few days. Keen to start sculpting and texturing. Laying out the uvees is going to be fun. : S
Although it won't be as nice visually during the sculpt, you could model one (or two) feather, sculpt and clone it. It'll be much faster to sculpt too!
I really like the large belly on this for some reason. don't know why. maybe my biological clock is ticking 0_o. it might be interesting to REALLy exaggerate the S-curve in the spine

she gonna have a weapon?
yup, perhaps a staff or blade of some description. was gonna focus on that after i figure out what the heck i'm doing with the wings.

I also like the lack of face in that concept.

Overall cool concept. Keep up the good work.

Great start, looking forward to more.

cool update though, I'm very moist
Dropping the mech stuff. The character totally doesn't need it and will just confuse the overall look of the character.
