DWIV - 2D - Valkier

Howdy guys. Got some ideas and I think I'll try to enter this year. I'll post what I got when I've got it.

    A couple things to show. First off, I did some head concepts and one jumped out at me and basically told me I have to do it. It's a bit bass ackwards for the normal process, but I'm willing to deal with that.

    His natural posture would have him hunched over. For the heads however, I wanted him to be in a posture that showed he considers himself more royal and "better". The neck on the perspective is too thin at the moment however, and I'll be fixing that.

    I made some silhouettes, but they're a bit too human for my liking at the moment. I'm gonna start trying to push myself to come up with some less human figures, but feel free to comment on whatever you think looks nice on these. If nothing looks nice, that's fine as well. If anything I'll only be taking certain elements from them on this first page.

    Been a little while since I posted some updates! Here's a few. I'm leaning towards a shield clericon at the moment, but I'm going to try to continue with the demon and see if I can get that one working as well.

    I agree with Woogity :) I like your less humanistic desgins better than the human ones :) That first head turnaround is really sweet.

    Unfortunately with the stipulations of how Demon Lords are not human looking at all, I just can't seem to get the head to work with that idea in mind. When I made it, I hadn't read that far into the rules, so I made it with an almost pharaoh type design in mind, and very humanoid in nature. I haven't completely given up, but I cannot seem to get any ideas out that don't seem forced or cliche to an embarrassing degree.

    Otherwise, I messed with my shield clericon a little more and the results are getting better and better.

    Need some help with the overall design. I feel like there's just something missing from the design somewhere, like he's too plain or light on things that describe him. I'll give a brief character description and hopefully it helps.

    Race: Human
    Class: Shield Cleric
    Weapon: Impenetrable Mace
    Miscellaneous: "Dream Catcher"

    The shields on his mace orbit slowly around the large light orb while idle, but can be controlled to fly out to great distances. All magic or kinetic energy from impacts are stored within the shields and can be used to fire a projectile of holy energy. Can also use the shields as their own solid projectile, or used as a hammer when orbiting the light orb.

    The character specializes in the protection and healing of comrades. His pendant and shoulder guards house energy absorbed through the dream catcher to create an impenetrable barrier around the cleric himself, while he is also able to create magic barriers anywhere he looks. While in the barriers, people are gradually rejuvenated.

    Although his appearance is somewhat warped through the repeated use of cleric magic, he is not part angel or god or anything like that. His hair is just white and some of his clothes have feathers forming out of them. He cannot levitate more than a few feet over any surface for a short amount of time, and he does not bleed wine and break off tasty wafers of skin.

    If someone could help me possibly think of ways to improve upon his design with this stuff in mind, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    More refinement done. Getting it to a good point I think, but still needs a little work on it to make it a bit more aesthetically pleasing I believe.

    Well, very little interest in mine, but I push onward! I didn't have nearly as much time to work on this contest as I wanted, but still hoping to finish in time. Here's the update. Sadly, since the 18th is rapidly approaching, I may need to turn this into the final illustration. Not my first choice, but I'd rather have something turned in and give it a shot then not turn in anything at all and call it a loss.

    Done as well as I had time for. It was fun to finally participate. Hopefully I'll have learned something to carry in to next year ^_^
