We've talked about this earlier, sketches look good man, off to a good start. I still like the one on the bottom row in the middle. I still think you need to grossly exaggerate the proportions of him... make that mechanical arm really really large -
in your sketches the proportions of this character looks pretty close to regular average human proportions and I think that an exaggeration will help you creatively get away from the normalness of a regular human - get away from the current "dragon ball z" style of proportions you're at now.
Nice sketches so far. The new character is great but I think it just needs something to push it that bit extra. He's looking a bit too cutesie (young) at the moment if you get what I mean. This might be the feel your going for of course. I'd probably try making him look meaner. Also have you tried adding a tail? Might be worth a shot
As for the armour paintovers I chose the middle one.
Oh yeah I completely agree about it looking to friendly. Going to do some sketches today at work. I want to make it look like a grizzled vet or something like that, giving it some story painted on its face.
I'll post some more once I get some thing down on paper!
Oh yeah I plan on having a tail, like in the previous concept art but I forgot to draw it in that concept lol!
yeah the face on top left looks pretty hard, kewl. also please rotate your character so he doesnt look like hes falling over, just might make it easier to crit for silly people like me.
ok, here is what you do... if you are sticking with the tentacle dreads, try some sketches with no nose. give him more of a sleak look. maybe pull out the muzzle a little bit in a sketch, see how that feels. next the eyes, i think they are reading young because they are square. not like a kid with glasses but in shape. try either REALLY squinty, or REALLY ROUND with small pupils. depends on the character i suppose. if he is super brutal and insane, do the round eyes with the little pupils. that shit is scary as hell.
other than that...DRAW OUT YOUR FORMS DAMNIT!!. you are losing a lot of volume on these sketches, things are all wobbly and shit. and no more ninja turtle eyebrows. go online, grab up a bunch of human, squid, octopus, whatever is going into this guy. a little reference goes a long way. i have a folder of monkeys and lizards and naked men to look at for mine :P
HI DAN, i would stick with more protruding jaws rather than receding. the lack of chin makes these guys look weak, the ones on the left have a real strong look to them.
I agree with a lot of the crits floating around here-- one thing that I would chip in is that it might be worthwhile to explore varying the dimensions of the head. Just because it's a humanoid demon doesn't mean the head has to be the exact proportions of a human's. Try elongating the head in some way, it might help set the head apart more.
Cool beans though-- can't wait to see where you go with this.
the ansari are a rip of the protoss. So on so forth.
You can distinguish a protoss from an asari in many respects. The head design on this concept is nearly identical to that of an asari. Better safe than sorry IMHO
If you look at his previous posts he just arrived at a similar place, he's obviously come to this by accident.
I'd say the below image of the hair/tentacles is far enough away from an Asari, if you did it with no nose either its even less of an issue, I'd just stay away from blue tones.
Not to mention this design is much stronger than the last head.
btw, that Asari's by no means the most unique design ever done.
All right now much to update, been working a bit over time this week but here is what I have done.
Added a bit more detail to the crotch cape and made some boots. I'm going to start building the rest of the torso armor tonight and hopefully I'll have the armor almost finished by the end of this weekend.
Really good detail here man. Like I said before reminds me a lot of the theron guard from gears:
I hope he doesnt step on it when he's running or hunching over. Imagine putting a foot on it on accident while ducking beyhind cover and then ripping his pants off when he stands up lol
details are looking really cool though man, I likethe hard surface you've got going on here - really looking forward to the sculpt of the creature though.
Can we get a rear shot of the tail? I want to see how it connects to the body. As of right now Ifeel like the base of it could use a bit more thickness to help get away from the sort of female draenei look he's got going.
looks really nice so far man. well exectuted - keep it up!
Ok Here is another update. I worked a little on it this weekend.
Almost finished with the armor then I can start working on the sculpt.
Adam- Yeah you spotted the main reason I am not showing the back side, I was not finished fleshing out the tail when I exported it. I need to make it a lot thicker, but it won't be a problem once I start sculpting.
Yeah man looking really good now! Digging the sculpt. ARe you going to add a bunch of tertiary detail in the muscle i.e. muscle fibers running throughout it? That'd be kind of cool, at least to imply it. Hopefully you'll get in there and chink up the armor too with a little bit of wear and tear :P
I reallly like the direction you're going with this Dan, it's staying very true to your concept and I think that can be very hard to do. Cool style!
Yeah I plan on doing that to the muscles once I'm done fleshing out the lower body and tail. Yes I plan on putting more detail onto the armor with includes dings scratches along with more hard surface detail. Also I am going to add detail to the leather (Yes I plan on making it look leather like) to the crotch cape and making it look not so perfectly symmetric.
Once again thanks, and hopefully I'll have more done by this weekend.
I have had a lot of problems with max crashing while I was trying to bump out the normals. And other crud like that caused me to work slower then I would like... Hopefully I'll be able to finish this thing in time. I'll have the rest of the armor normal-ed out and have AO maps done by tomorrow if everything goes to plan.
Well here is an update of what I have so far. I highly doubt I'll be finished by the time I have to turn it in, but I'll see it out to the end, and finish strong!
All normals are on, though I do have to redo some of the normals and the AO maps on the mask and the leather belt thing.

i will say, however, that the bottom middle head in the second img has be intrigued
looks neat.
DWIV finally off to a start woohoo!

Good luck Danny, can't wait to see more!
Adam- Yeah you are right, I need to push it further. I am drawing his forearms large like popeye's, but I have to push it further... looks to generic.
All right more concept art...
some armor concepts
More exploring liked the "crotch cape" idea.
More detailed "Crotch cape"
Its either that or this...
The Una-corn Bomber! Teddy Kaczynski!!!
Had this one almost done yesterday, just wanted to clean up the lines a bit before posting.
working on armor ideas.
As for the armour paintovers I chose the middle one.
Anyway. Good progress. Keep it coming
about the face, the tail and armor..
lol
keep it coming

I'm going to do some more exploration today on making it even less human... I guess I was just a little tired last night.

lookin cool though, keep crackin
But Gavin, the ninja turtles are my reference!
Nah just joking, I see what you mean and I'll be fixing it in the future drawings.
Other then that Ive been drawing and redrawing heads this time with scars and stuff.
Cool beans though-- can't wait to see where you go with this.
Still working on it but here is some inspiration I found for the weapon and armor.
I'll update with something better as soon.
The artist that created this knife is named Jose C. de Braga from Quebec, Canada.
still trying to concept out the armor designs but I'm liking where its headed.
the ansari are a rip of the protoss. So on so forth.
I dig this new direction. Much cool.
You can distinguish a protoss from an asari in many respects. The head design on this concept is nearly identical to that of an asari. Better safe than sorry IMHO
Damn... A bit upsetting really... Going to see what I can do to change it...

Started blocking out the model, some quick sculpting in zbursh and started to make the armor.
Still have lots of work to do in zbrush but it was enough for me to start to make the armor around the body.
Added a bit more detail to the crotch cape and made some boots. I'm going to start building the rest of the torso armor tonight and hopefully I'll have the armor almost finished by the end of this weekend.

Now make him fatter!
and gayer!
