OK...Lets get the show on the road.

First impressions from the brief. I originally thought that doing a Small Stalker Dragon. Kind of like a dragon assassin or summit. But having just completed a dragon model I thought I'd move away from that a bit. I think i'll be doing a Dwarf Warlord or Invoker, possibly even a Demon Prince Dwarf Warrior. I was always a huge fan of Warhammer's Chaos Dwarf lead figures back in the day so I think i'll head in that direction.

So..here's what I plan to achieve. Having failed to complete the War last year I think this year I need to slow it down a bit. I have no illusions that I will place anywhere near the top lot, so I intend to do quite a simple model but try to do it too the very best of my ability and get it right. Making sure I don't bodge things and cut corners etc.

Anyhoo...On with the show

Yep. The weapon is going to be mahoosive!...if he's not a wizard anyway. Not sure If i'll be mutating him yet. 2 heads sounds cool but we'll see.

Here's a reference image of the exact Dwarf renegade Pack I had eons ago. They are a bit squat for what I am aiming for so i'll have to mess with proportion. I also want to add some grandeur so that he looks impressive. He will also have a beard, maybe a twin plaited one. Not too big as I want to show his armour.

    More quick sketching

The one to the upper right looks rad. Would be cool with some spikes and horns.

Ok...lets give this alchemy lark a blast. Think i prob's need more practice with it but its good fun anyway. Its a bit difficult to create shapes to suit a predetermined idea (dwarfs) but I can see how useful it is at just banging out shapes. Then determining what the shapes are afterwards.

    1. Most dwarf like that's for sure

    2. Not sure (larger version of 5)

    3. hmmm...

    4. Maybe too mech like in proportion

    5. Looks good for a wizrd type upper body

    6. Not bad...theres something dwarfen about it

Keep the stoutness and proportion of #1

Khazek and Doomaxe have cool helmets, I like the horns.
Keep his armor heavy and perhaps with a hooded cape.
Beard + Hood seems like an interesting character

Go 2handed sword or axe, taller than the dwarf, for the weapon.

Cheers 408...I agree, I've decided I'm going to keep the stoutness. By doing so I think i'm gonna have a slightly stylised finish to the model else the proportions will look quite odd I think. But we'll see once I start modelling.

    UPDATE: EVEN MORE THUMBS YAY!!!!

but this time i've brought out the BIG GUNS, nevermind this new fangled digital concepting and symmetrical silhouetting lark. Nothing beats the old Black Bic Ball Point and some lined note paper for real quality presentation.... :)

And here's a quick paintover of my preferred thumb. Dont take too much notice of the bright colours I just put them in to separate the parts a bit. I'll also be cramming shed loads of ornate detail onto the armour, etc at the modelling stage.

I really want to try and get a half face helmet on though and a huge double plaited beard so that I can make this character a berserker type chaos dwarf. I'll probs focus on the head next I think.

Don't know what the back pack thing is yet either. I just slapped that in without any thought really. Any suggestions for what could be on his back will be great.

    HOLY RELENTLESS POLYCOUNT ARMY BATMAN!!!

I let myself drift down to page 12. Loads of people up for this here then. Good to see

    Anyway. To business.

I decided to get on and do a concept sketch and as per usual I totally ignore the work I've done already and end up with something I had in my head all along. Not that the previous work is pointless though. It gives me time to think a bit before I start to really get things done.

    UPDATE: Concept sketch. Dwarf Berserker

Not sure if he's a norm or demon now. I've kept it quite basic without too much detail and added extras. I'll add them as I model him. I do know that I plan to give him dual weapons and some sort of back pack or device mounted on his back. A Cannon might work or one of those fat little mortars. Not sure though. I think I'll probably change his High tops as well for something more brutal.

    Anyway. C&C welcome

progressing nicely man, keep it goin :)

next thing to consider imo, is what his artifact is and how it might affect his weapons, armour etc. At the moment he looks like a cool warrior, but I reckon he needs something to make him extra special. maybe something that somehow uses his size as an advantage? eg, his speciality is getting inside enemy machines and destroying them from within

Yep. Definately need to think up something special to make him stand out.

Just looked at the rules and it would appear that as a Norm i'm only allowed to give him one special weapon. So that knocks my dual weapon theory out. Will have to think what i'm going to do about that. Anyhoo. Lets get some ideas down as to what I might do with him

    1. Norm invoker - ability to move very fast and attack with lighting speed - weapon - huge sword (as in concept sketch)

    2. Norm stalker - ability to blend into scenery quickly and move silently, master of camoflauge. weapon - Daggers and magical scoped Crossbow, light armour

    3. Chaos Berserker (Demon Prince) - Power to control fallen enemies bones and ignite the souls energy (think magneto and pyro but with bones) - weapon - flaming bones and huge sword, bone armour

    4. Norm invoker (engineer) - Ability to sabotage enemy machinery - weapon - The magical spanner of Snap-on and welding torch (gas canisters mounted on back), leather apron and welding mask

I'm kinda drifting towards number 2. I'll have to do concept sketches for the new ideas and see how they looks. I can get on blocking out the body shape for now though. Just to get the modelling kicked off. As I'm happy with the proportions of him.
