I got a few hours tonight when my head didn't feel like it was going to explode so I got some work done. (I just realized I turned off the AO pass in all of these... sigh... next time around)
- Worked on the diffuse, and some shaders along with the lighting.
- I was having trouble positioning the whip, with a huge stone tablet on the end I couldn't really do classic whip poses, so I decided to go with a spear instead.
- I have roughly 2k polys left over, but 1-200 of those will be for glow and goo.
- I might change the spear into a harpoon and add a rope coil or use the extra polys on a maids cart and tool box.
The extension is great, I'm very thankful for the extra time, ZB pass huh... maybe. I have a lot of tris all over the place, I would probably have to build a high poly from scratch using the low as a guide? I might do a old school hand painted normal bump on a few areas, plus some CrazyBumps for skin detail and spec help.
I think this idea is tops! Toxic Avenger would be proud!
Since the janitor is small, I think janitor-like visual aid is in order for the platform. IE slick, mop-able surface maybe, IE tiles, linoleum ect. Perhaps a bathroon summoning! broken pipes/tiles demon erupting from floor and toilets exploding! broken mirrors! kids feet cowering in closed stall.... anyway seems a bit confusing that he is mopping up some rocks, but upon thought he is just summoning I guess.
Also, the green mess in background could be in a sloppy greentooth shape a-la vector paints?, perhaps freeing up the demon's shield and some texture space if needed...
Just some thoughts, you dont need them anyway, but good luck! nice entry!
I like the idea for the background I might change the env to be a bit more janitorial, but I want to be careful and not build an environment, they seem to want to crack down on that this year. I really like the idea of a tile floor and I'll probably do something like that, kind of like a cross section where you see dirt and pipes.
The pedestal I have now might have been to vague but I was going for:
Many a hand has scaled the grand old face of the plateau...
Nothing on the top but a bucket and a mop
And an illustrated book about birds
You see a lot up there but don't be scared
Who needs action when you got words
But I like the tile floor idea I think it could really look nice. Thanks for the suggestion!
- Worked on the diffuse, lighting and pose.
- Also baked the face normal and started the hand painted bump & spec maps and the opacity map.
To-do-list:
- Finish diffuse for horns, hooves, demon back, leather shield strap, janitor and supplies.
- Adjust harness ropes.
- Clean up verts for final pose.
- Redo the base adding janitorial theme.
- Add glowing opacity planes to weapon, hooves and portal.
- Create final images...
Thanks to everyone that gave me feedback and suggestions!
I haven't submitted these yet, I might tweak them tomorrow when I get home from work. I'm glad I finished, even though there is a lot I would do differently, I'm proud of it. Next year I'll be sure to clear enough time to work on the entry. Juggling 3 outside of work projects, work and a family meant everything got some rough treatment.
I'll probably continue to work on it and use it to update my portfolio which hasn't been touched since 2006...

Time to switch gears back to Decker and get the next beta release out there.
I got home kind of late so I did a really quick texture pass and a new set of renders and then submitted. The site is probably getting hammered with submissions it took a few try's to get some of the uploads to stick.
some janitors find baby alligators, Lavey found something else.. haha awesome. Hey Vig I dig the shield logo and good choice on switching up the pedestal to fit more with the character. gratz on finishing!
hey vig congrats on finishing, the texture has gone a long way and ended up better and much more readable !
just love the pose of the janitor on top, hilarious
The text, the design, the attention to detail, everything comes together really well. Nice thread to go through and see the progress here. Satanic fly swatter, toxic avenger!! Lavey also reminds me of Ash from Evil Dead and he's got a pose that Ash would be jealous of I guess. Pedestal is really fitting, completed by the mop cart and caution wet floor sign Grtz on finishing!
