Its great to be doing this again. Last year was both fun and extremely stressful so naturally I want to do this again and shorten my life a few more years.
So you starting on your final concept here? I see no thumbnail sketches! Try something like Alchemy , or at least do a page of thumbs before settling on anything I recommend.
Well I'm sure working late tonight. Here's another update of finishing the rough thumbnail detail:
Though I still need a super weapon. I'm kind of thinking of a mini gun attached to his right hand but that sounds a bit too generic so maybe something else. Maybe a flamethrower. That would be cool.
I agree this looks like it has plenty of potential, but I must ask don't you think your rushing a little bit? If your absolutely dead set on this concept it might be good to really hit it with a good concept pass to make sure all the problem areas are resolved before diving in?
Because I tend to be a lot slower with the texturing than the modeling and it was the texturing that I really had to rush with last year which really hurt my final product. I want to have enough time to do that well because from what I've seen its the texturing that really makes or breaks a game res model.
for some reason the machine parts aren't 'grooving' with the stone bits. I would picture some sort of magic requiring this guy to move, like the large dudes from that one videogame that for some reason is completely gone. yah, it's gone. cant remember. *sigh* anyway, it was AWESOME. and you had to climb up to kill them. poor bastards.
also the rock creature from Galaxy Quest. you have no idea how happy i am i just remembered the name of that movie.

Yeah I partly agree on this Zatoichi. Namely on the purely stone leg and stone hand. Doesn't make since for it to be completly stone so I went back and adjusted that today. Thanks Zatoichi
Here's an update on those parts. Its a bit hard to see the joints on the hand but you should be able to see it on the stone leg:
Also did a lot with the girl base mesh. Though it doesn't have a head yet. Here's that update:
Currently the polys from both meshes add up to about 4k higher than the 10k limit but I'm confident I'll be able to reduce that much for the game mesh after the sculpting is done.
Well its been a damn awful long time since I've updated this thing but here it goes. Obviously DW4 is over but I'm not one to give up on a project before its done. That and the fact this model kicks ASS! :P
agreed: also, its very hard to notice the woman.. I suggest either making something glow behind her, so she stands out (dark silhouette) or darkening behind her and bumping her values right up so she shines out a bit (light silhouette).

PS: this might be a 3 reply repeat as polycount has been very slow in approving the standard "Reply to this Thread" button

I also started roughing out the base mesh though I still need to design a weapon for him. Still, here's the progress on that:
I wasn't keen on the concept, but seeing it as a model has me convinced this really could be something.
Let's go!
Coldkodiak: Heh, I know exactly what you mean. A lot of my stuff tends to look crap on paper and good in 3d.
Got another update. Pretty much finished the base mesh of the golem: current tris for golem is 7635.
Also did a quick front/ side of the girl so its not much to look at but here it is:

ah yes. my brain was freezing up last night. >.<
congrats on seeing it through
but before that let me just say Thank you Rooter and ZacD for your comments and critiques.
Now Click for Aztec Golem and Demo Reel!!!
Sure took a long time to finish this but hopefully it will be pretty apparent why it did when you see it hehe
Now all I need is some work...
