Anyone Use Wings 3D?

Hi, I use Wings 3D and im probably going to be using it for some time. Im currently developing my own game along with a Porgrammer. I was wondering how I could get the best looking graphics out of my models.
For instance. I was wondering about the "Gooch Tone" Shader. Now I have applied my textures to my tank, But when I set it to Gooch Tone, The Textures disappear? What should I do- In order to keep Gooch tone or any other Shader that I apply- That will work with my Textures.

Any Help in further understanding Wings 3D will be helpful!

Wings is a modeling package (as far as I remember) so you don't really need to bother about shaders in it really! I would say, export your model to your game engine and apply the gooch there!

Or maybe I am missing something?

Yea... I was thinking Export it As a Gooch Model, and see if the programmer can apply the textures onto the model. With the Gooch already on it. Ill show you a Screen shot of the Gooch effect

I just love the shinniness / reflection. But my textures dont shot :(

And, Yeah- I could use the ordinary Shader that makes Shaders show which is the hemispherical Lighting Shader

Yea I like the Hemispherical Shader instead now..

get blender 3d (free & opensource all in all way more powerfull as wings3d)
    http://www.blender.org/

and read on uv-unwrapping and texturing. You can still use wings3d for modeling (which it seems to be good at) but I would advise using a more complete package such as blender to setup the materials, uv`s, textures ect and export the final stuff.

Blender is soo confusing, Ive downloaded it several times, Tinkered around in it- I get no where.. I end up having to remove the application...

Like there has got to be A way to keep the Hemispherical Shader with the attached Textures...

that Hemispherical Shader is most likely a simplified but non standard material from wings 3d,- better ask your programmer what he knows he can handle or work with (*.dx, OBJ/MAT,..?).

Another way could be to render the shader output in the texture (render to texture). Blender, Max and Maya can do something like that- but then again it was the reason why I advised to use a more complete package in combination to do such stuff.
And yes Blender is a disaster UI workflow wise but they are about to change that with the upcomming 2.5 release. But maybe do it like I use it-
Because I do hell not know how to propper use Blender,- instead I only know how to use the UV-unwrap, render to texture and export/import stuff - because thats all I need blender sometimes for. As soon as they fixed the unuseable UI I will have a serious look at it again with focus on the other tools as well.
But for a complete package blender is the only one that is free or at least cheap.

Very Interesting, Because I find it very difficult to unwrap and UV texture in Wings 3D. I've tried Google Sketch-up, Any Recommendations about that program?

Also How would I go about rendering the shader output on texture? Were using Obj. Files in the game.

sorry not in wings 3d- it simply cant do that as I mentioned before. So in other words you would have to search or build a similar shader in blender/max/maya in order to bake it there.

    here is a blender tutorial:
    http://wiki.blender.org/index.php/Doc:Manual/Render/Bake
    and some general info:
    http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-243/render-baking/

anyway enough of blender,- regardless of what you touch next I would suggest in general to get into UV/UVW editing so you can propper design the texture of your tank. Not sure if Wings3d supports UV-editing-

Wings 3D can be complicating at times, and various- confusing steps to do to get the job done. So I hope from what ive been reading that this trick might work. But Ive found working with Wings3D to be a Extremely quick modeling program

To make texturing easier in these applications you can assign materials to selected faces in Wings3D for various parts. You might apply a material to the head, another to the left arm, another to the right arm, one to the front torso faces, one to the back torso faces, one to the left side faces, one to the right side faces, one to the left leg and one to the right leg. Then in your UV mapping application you can select by material, drag that portion off to the side and apply the appropriate map to it. For the head you might apply a spherical map, for the front, back and sides planar maps, and for the arms and legs cylindrical maps. Then you save the map and re-save the model from the UV application, take the map into your favorite paint program, and paint it as you like. Then in your render engine apply the painted map to the model.

Nah that isnt it. :\ guess will try google sketchup

Deathelmz - people have no hatred of Wings3d here, it was one of my favourite early modelling packages.

The issues is that it is a simple modelling package and doesn't have a lot of the features that you require if you want to get art assets into a game.

I also think that Blender has an awkward interface, but:

    * I'll do the UV editing
    * It has advanced editing features
    * It'll export to anything you need for your game
    * It's free

It looks like you are dead set on sticking with Wings at the expense of making your life a whole lot easier.
