Hi, I use Wings 3D and im probably going to be using it for some time. Im currently developing my own game along with a Porgrammer. I was wondering how I could get the best looking graphics out of my models.
For instance. I was wondering about the "Gooch Tone" Shader. Now I have applied my textures to my tank, But when I set it to Gooch Tone, The Textures disappear? What should I do- In order to keep Gooch tone or any other Shader that I apply- That will work with my Textures.
Any Help in further understanding Wings 3D will be helpful!

Or maybe I am missing something?
I just love the shinniness / reflection. But my textures dont shot

and read on uv-unwrapping and texturing. You can still use wings3d for modeling (which it seems to be good at) but I would advise using a more complete package such as blender to setup the materials, uv`s, textures ect and export the final stuff.
Another way could be to render the shader output in the texture (render to texture). Blender, Max and Maya can do something like that- but then again it was the reason why I advised to use a more complete package in combination to do such stuff.
And yes Blender is a disaster UI workflow wise but they are about to change that with the upcomming 2.5 release. But maybe do it like I use it-
Because I do hell not know how to propper use Blender,- instead I only know how to use the UV-unwrap, render to texture and export/import stuff - because thats all I need blender sometimes for. As soon as they fixed the unuseable UI I will have a serious look at it again with focus on the other tools as well.
But for a complete package blender is the only one that is free or at least cheap.
Also How would I go about rendering the shader output on texture? Were using Obj. Files in the game.

here is a blender tutorial:

and some general info:

anyway enough of blender,- regardless of what you touch next I would suggest in general to get into UV/UVW editing so you can propper design the texture of your tank. Not sure if Wings3d supports UV-editing-
To make texturing easier in these applications you can assign materials to selected faces in Wings3D for various parts. You might apply a material to the head, another to the left arm, another to the right arm, one to the front torso faces, one to the back torso faces, one to the left side faces, one to the right side faces, one to the left leg and one to the right leg. Then in your UV mapping application you can select by material, drag that portion off to the side and apply the appropriate map to it. For the head you might apply a spherical map, for the front, back and sides planar maps, and for the arms and legs cylindrical maps. Then you save the map and re-save the model from the UV application, take the map into your favorite paint program, and paint it as you like. Then in your render engine apply the painted map to the model.

The issues is that it is a simple modelling package and doesn't have a lot of the features that you require if you want to get art assets into a game.
I also think that Blender has an awkward interface, but:
* I'll do the UV editing
* It has advanced editing features
* It'll export to anything you need for your game
* It's free
It looks like you are dead set on sticking with Wings at the expense of making your life a whole lot easier.
