Back up your stuff asap. Take home personal belongings (like self bought office furniture).
Once they call you to kick you out you're pretty much frozen out of the network, your machine and your room.

First they got rid of qa in mass, now it's whoever's not on an active management role but done in small groups. Too late to ass kiss now. If you're on the hit list...that's it.
Rookies/ jr guys are probably safe and saved for the next cycle.
Anyways, if you do a lot shopping online at work or banking/paypal, make sure you have your passwords listed outside of work.

I just know some guys didn't see this coming...to them. The tragic part, guys in the same dept knew ahead of time who's due next and didn't bother cluing in the fired people (so how could they retrieve their work for projects not sched for release now).

You are right. But this isn't lack of information; this is lack of consciousness. The same people aren't going to suddenly wake up because they read something cryptic on a messageboard, unfortunately.
