Map Channel Problems in Max

I was preparing to import a character into the Unreal Editor, and since I used projection to texture my character I had a couple different map channels. The final texture I applied I had on the second map channel, and I was attempting to bring it to the first map channel to make the import smoother. All of the different body parts cooperated, except for the head.

Even though I'll load the proper UV coordinates onto the proper channel, switch it to channel one and collapse the stack, the UVs get messed up. I've tried about all that I can think of, has anyone ever come across a similar problem, and if so, how did you fix it?
