i've got a good few models (300k worth) in a scene that I want to render toon shaded, and I've got a toon shader applied to them (ramp material)
as soon as I put the viewport into hardware textured mode, maya dies on me. it's as if the toon shader is using a massive ammount of texture resources, even though there are no texture file nodes in the scene. can anyone explain that? why the scene would run perfectly fine either in smooth shaded, or in hardware textured without the toon shader applied. it seems definately connected to toon shader in hardware textured mode
any help much appreciated, cheers

that uses a interesting approach in toon shading with maya
the question is how to stop maya doing that, I don't get why it is
edit: like I open the uv window and right there is a baked texture- i've not done anything that should bake anything
