Here's a really retarded review of KillZone2 by a "real CGI artist." Some really retarded things jump out at me like:
"The first thing that caught my eye was that the game is shadow cheating, a very sad sad technique that dates back to the PS1 days. Shadow cheating is where the shadows in the game are not being generated by a real light source. They are faked by painting a dark shadow with the texture map."
"Another thing i found annoying is the level of detail they put in the gun you are holding, by all accounts, it is the most graphically intense item in the whole game. Are you kidding me? How can this be. Of all the detailed models in the game they spent the most time on the weapon you are holding. What this does is make the rest of this virtual world less appealing."
Yeh maybe because the gun is taking up a full 1/4 of the screen so it should be more detailed? That's SOP for shooters. These aren't "cheats" they are the craft. he goes on:
"he fire is weak and the explosions are canned meaning they are the same throughout the game, nothing movie like"
" Since KillZone 2 decided to use a lot of graphical cheats i see no reason why they did not shoot for 60fps frame rate" wtf?
It's a real goldmine.

But that's kind of evident either way. "The guns are too detailed, that sucks!" What?
I hate it when every explosion isn't unique! Like movies.
My favorite line:
CoD clone as in an fps?
My thoughts exactly.
LOL
Shadow cheating instead of lights maps... graphical cheats lol, this is an example of a guy speaking without property, fanboy spotted. woot? cgi artist? ¬¬ my grandma!
"nvidia" is what he has! LMAO
Someone, buy him a ps3 XDDDD
NOTE: nvidia = envidia = envy
I was disappointed with KZ2 until they fixed the controls. And yes, its tons better than COD5.
ah... as much as I want to... I don't think there's a need to expend much more effort than that.
I guess we can thank him for wasting our time reading it, when all we get out of it what the reader may already know... that "yeah, it's a good game."
Either he wants attention like Yozora said and proofs that he's dumb or he is only dumb. Both options are not really positive for him xD
I believe the original reason he compared it to CoD was that they both had guns that used bullets.
One time I cheated reality by drawing a picture.
"The first thing that caught my eye was that the game is shadow cheating, a very sad sad technique that dates back to the PS1 days."
"This is a really slick way to cheat as an art director trying to make use of limited resources."
"This is where my experience as a cgi artist kicks in. This is why just because you read an article on the internet does not mean the person who wrote it is an expert. Anyone can write articles on the internet and claim to be a professional."
This guy must know what he's not talking about. His points are too perfectly wrong.
"There is no other item in the whole game that looks as good as the gun you hold and the reload animation. This is a joke!"
"Guerrilla avoided the use of normal mapping which is a cpu heavy process."
One of the first and only things apparently this uber cgi artist "learnt".
It was a good laugh, I think all that really matters though is that the game is out and people are enjoying it, and it is damn pretty :P
... It's funny because when I see friends play their console games the only thing I find myself admiring is all the cheating that's been done. The level design, graphics and shit, all the admirable illusions. Why would anyone expect something fully simulated and detailed on a console? What they pull off on limited hardware is what should be found impressive.
My friend hated Doom3 because the textures were extremely low resolution on his Xbox. It is elsewhere a good looking game. I really am consistently appalled by the narrow-mindedness of many modern console gamers, but I just can't find the enjoyment in console shooters myself, so whatever.
I loved it when he kept comparing it to Gears 2 which he claimed was so superior in every sense, then goes and says something about how it doesn't make sense for them to be in the future, on another planet, and using bullets. Would you use machineguns in the future?!
I think he suddenly forgot the part where everything Gears does is brilliant.
that's an industry term.... (sarcasm)
I like how he points out all these "cheats" like static lighting, re-using effects, etc. as then talks up Gears as if Gears doesn't do THE EXACT SAME SHIT.
Does anyone who actually does visual effects for a living refer to themselves as a CGI artist? I don't think I've heard the term CGI since like 1994.
I aspire to achieve such greatness!
that made me lose it, haha
also this:
"So in a game such as KillZone 2 where their is no sun and everything is mostly dark you have no normal mapping which makes things less real."
Not only is he not a "CGI" artist, but he doesn't even know what "CGI" is
Guess this guy has never developed a game engine before huh?
