Recently started messing around with Scorched3D, and I was wondering if anyone else around here was a closet [scorched] junky. I tried modding it once, way back when, but the mood at the time was low - to say the least - when dealing with mods.

At the moment, they have recently updated to a new version, and the servers are disturbingly empty, just waiting for new and old players alike to jump on in. If you care to embarrass me with a few well placed sand hogs, just look for The Everlasting Slurge, I am on every so often. If you have absolutely no clue what I am talking about head on over to http://www.scorched3d.co.uk/index.php and see what it's all about.

I used to play Scorched Earth a lot with my mates back in the days of the 386. It was such a wonderfully simple concept and design and had loads of settings to mess about with to keep things fresh and config files with all the quotes to fiddle about with as we saw fit. Hours of fun for the young'un. I even wrote a piece for year 7 English on my hero Wendel T Hicken.
I don't think this sort of game translates particularly well to 3D. Scorched 3D is markedly better than the Worms attempts in that it's actually still playable, but it still seems to have lost a certain something from its 2d incarnation.
All that said, it's been a long time since I've tried the game. It's probably changed quite a bit. The mention of Sandhogs makes me feel a little nostalgic so maybe I'll fire it up and have a shot.

scorched earth was awesome, but my favorite iteration of it is still Gunbound.

god I wish they would bring that to XBLA.

I still love Scorched Earth, and the amiga alternative Scorched Tanks. Scorched3D however, is just a boring novelty in which the third dimension makes the otherwise fun gameplay a chore carried away with graphical glitz which would only work in a real-time, action situation (see: Tread Marks).

Really enjoying it (scorched earth) in the iShoot incarnation on my iPhone. Nice little distraction every so often.

Heh, I guess that I was in it for the mods. I can remember when I was on the server when quite a few weapons for Merge were suggested. Who would of thought that the sprinkler-frog would be so popular? I got so used to Scorchwars, that I could barely shoot a straight shot at under 1500 power.

I also remember when the superhero mod was nothing but a dream and a stolen motorcycle. Apoc-X was more popular than normal apoc, and The Best of S3D was still running. Now the servers feel like morges, although Paris is still playing.

    Lots of memories.
