i was wondering if such a thing exists, some little bit of software that might let you bring up a custom pie menu on pressing a button, that you could assign shortcuts to etc?
damn, i guess that means there isn't one.. how come there's gesture based ones and not something simpler like this? puh
edit: well, i did find one called radialm but it sucks
Yeah I asked on two different technical boards and no one seems interested, thats kinda sad...
I think I'll end up getting this instead - basically hardware instead of software. http://www.xkeys.com/xkeys/xkstick.php
Now it just needs support for other applications profiles (ala wacom thingie), and some viewport navgation knob widget. This would completely rule out Xkeys, optimus keyboards, and spacenavigators. Anyone familiar with ipodtouch proramming? This is where it's at I think. Will buy one tonight for that.
Well yeah everybody screams how cool the optimus is. But the point of the pie thingie and the ipodtouch stuff is to not use a keyboard!
Like on a tablet PC. Or with a Cintiq. Or even with just an Intuos! Imagine just a piece of velcro holding the ipodtouch in plae just like a virtual pallete. Speaking of witch, it would be great for the ipodtouch thingie to support brush menus, color picker and sliders, layer palettes and so on. And switching between all these modes by just hitting the corner of the screen or something.
Not helpful, sorry; Did someone say pie? I misread your idea, I thought you were asking about software that displayed keystrokes in a pie chart. Like some kind of key logging software so you could see how often you pressed hotkeys or typed words, maybe use it to help highlight over used key-pressing? It was exciting when I first thought it...
Hehe KP yeah that'd be fun :P I think there is something similar somewhere for mouse distance, kinda crazy to think how far we wrist-travel every day! Probably more mouse distance a day than walked feet distance for most of us!
Yet to be accurate we should consider pixel distance and make some kind of average considering standard screen resolutions hehe. Wondering if someone ha been obsessed enough to create a mouse distance tracker taking all that into account. With some kind of calibration system and such haha.
(sorry for the thread derail Roost :P But I feel your pain it's as if many little programs almost have the needed features, but there is nothing that does exactly what we are looking for...)
awesome lampoly! two key features for me: keyboard shortcut support (as that's how I would wire it all up) and app specific (or with *very easy method of switching presets)
will check it out tho

WiFiRemote for the iphone and ipod touch
Stores 18 user-defined keyboard shortcuts

Only downside is that it's not per-program. But still, completely enough for say, Photoshop use (even better than photokeys). And no lag whatsoever.
