Intuos 3 problems

Hey all,
last few days my intuos3 wacom has been giving me a lot of grief. Sense the time I switched from using a graphire I've had a problem where at random the tablet will tell whatever program I'm in that I've just smashed the pen into the tablet, resulting in a lot of undos for huge blotches that will appear in photoshop or geometry in zb. Well I was fine with that happening occasionally, but now its happening continuously. Worse yet, I keep having to re-install the drivers because the area of the screen that the cursor will go to with the pen keeps shrinking (its only big enough to highlight the top left 4 icons on my screen atp). I've tried updating to the curent release candadate drives with no luck (in fact they seem to have made it even worse somehow).
Does anyone know what I can do about this? I might start having to sculpt with my mouse again at this rate
