Hmm. The purpose of the trials is 2-fold. Obviously it teaches you the combos for the characters and gives you an idea of what's linkable to what. The other is it gets your hands used to the motions and increases your reflexes. Over time it makes your inputs economical, too.
So many of what they teach you is useful once you get the timing down and when to use them. For example, there's many of the advanced stuff that teaches you how to juggle your ultra.
The ultras are great since they dish out so much damage. And you're guaranteed to activate your meter per round. But the balance is that they're easy to block/dodge if you just haphazardly throw them out there. Comboing into them are a sure fire way to get them to hit, if you can pull them off.
For example: Ryu's ultra is next to useless if you just throw it out on its own. There's actually enough lag on the start up that the other guy can JUMP OVER your fireball and punish you for your troubles. And Ryu's recovery after throwing his ultra is horrible.
So if you want it to hit you have a few options:
You can focus attack and get them into that crumpled state and do your ultra.
Or you can juggle your opponent with it. This involves a bit of skill but does massive amounts of damage if pulled off.
A low medium kick canceled into a hurricane kick is actually safer than canceling into a fireball.
Why? Because even if the fireball hits it doesn't knock down. If you do this in the corner they can counter even after they've been hit.
The hurricane kick knocks down, which gives you more options on what to do next and just generally swings the tide over to your end.
A low medium kick into a hadoken is still useful. When done in open space it pushes the other guy back and gives you some breathing room. Even if blocked. You can also cancel your super out of the hadoken for extra damage.
Very very useful stuff!
While the tactics behind the moves might not be transparent... it does get you thinking. Specially as you start to play more and more matches and try to figure out why what you're doing may or may not be working against a specific character/player.

That's exactly what i mean by safe. If you hurricane kick into a block you're set up to be punished on the cooldown, even by an ultra. The hadoken pushes you back far enough that the opponent cannot immediately retaliate without you blocking. Also, if you aren't charging your super, you can cancel into ex hadoken or ex shroyuken for the knockdown, unblockable, on a hit.
If you HAVE charged your super you can cancel into it. Hurricain kick does decent damage, but it lacks all of those opportunities and much more importantly gives a competent opponent a free combo if blocked.
Picked this up the other day, and have to say this game is cheap as shit...or my skill has gone and left me:( Pretty cool style, and will definetely need to get a good controller as the xbox one is not going to cut it.
i'm going to build myself a custom stick using a madkats controller. talked to a electronics nut today and apparently the late edition madkats controller is the easiest to use. no crappy coating on the contacts like there is on a standard 360 pad and it uses a custom ground. makes things so much simpler. Going to be ordering Sanwa parts so it will feel just like a japanese arcade unit. I just wish Lizard Liks didn't have a 2 week wait time now. the damn joystick on my ex2 is already going out because of how i abuse it.
and ZOMMMMGGGG Im doing the trial challenges to unlock the character artwork.. WOW are some of them tough!!! Your timing to pull off some of these combos have to be down to the millisecond. Capcom didnt fuck around when they made these challenges

yeah, they're nearly impossible! at least when you mash buttons like i do :P
most of the challenges i've only managed to get to level 3 on normal difficulty..
i'm not complaining though, FINALLY a game thats actually challenging, and not some maddox soft kiddie game that you can run through without even breaking a sweat on hard.
yeah I've been following it Asherr...really has helped a lot. Especially useful was the little health bar trick which was explained. From the looks of it tho, only beating the normal difficulty trials will yield the character art. I've beaten a few on hard and unlocked nothing but a 'new title'.
Oh my gawd.
This game is great, but so so so difficult.!
More difficult than soul calibur but somehow less frustrating!
Seth is a bastard.
He has everybody's super annoying moves, and can teleport and pull you to him.
Poor chun-li cannot escape, even though her mega thighs will it to be so

I dont understand why everyone plays arcade on anything but easiest (Im assuming most people arent since theyre saying how hard seth is). Yes Seth is a motherfucking bastard if you play him lets say on medium and beyond. You play on easy or easiest, well, then its a breeze. I understand if you want a challenge, but if you're just doing it to unlock characters, easy difficulty is the quick n dirty way to do it.
Well.
I want to feel like a master. Arcade mode is a bitch, but i much prefer survival mode.
One could say i'm an achievement whore lately.
(trying to beat arcade on above medium without a continue? Ugh.)
I was trying to figure out what I was watching there... the fighting was boring, why all the replays? Then I googled 'Ryona'. Dude, WTF. WTF is wrong with the Japanese.
Got the game at Target for 37 bucks!! This games makes me want to launch my PS3 out the window, and jump out behind it to stomp it into the ground! But I have fun!

Personally I don't see a connection, there are two people in the ring and they try to beat the shit out of each other. Nuff said.

I need to get back to playing SF4 more. After unlocking everyone I drifted back to playing Tekken 5 DR online. Think I'll fire it up tonight after work.
seriously I love street fighter but this is rather pissy to have a brand new game...
Dont get me wrong I know someone will argue about 3rd strike and all 3 of its versions...but its kinda ass that back then when they had it it was 30 bucks /40 bucks at most where as new releases now can be around 50-60 bucks a pop
.....I hate myself enough to probably pick it up again though (Damn you street fighter!)
