arcade sticks?

so with the upcoming release of street fighter 4 coming out, Ive decided I will be getting the xbox version of this......but as well all know from downloading and playing SF 2 HD off xbox live ,


XBOX CONTROLLERS ARE NOT MADE FOR FIGHTING GAMES!

so with that in mind I decided for the upcoming release it might be best if I buy a arcade stick for the xbox,

but I had a few questions


Mainly if I decided to ever maybe paint/ decorate a nice stick any recommendations on this?

what are good brands? how much should I expect to pay?

if I wanted to get 2?

Anyone with experience with any of this is welcome to fill in?

(I remember pior was building one, but I dont think I can go that far in less then 2 weeks :P )

unless you pre-ordered or have a hookup somewhere, the SF4 tournament sticks ($149) are sold out everywhere and online. On ebay there's tons of them selling for 2x the price as usual. I'll be touring around plano/frisco on launch day looking for one. They also sell the regular fighter stick which uses the same parts but has a plastic casing for a little cheaper. If you can find them, I read that the Virtua Fighter stick for 360 is the best for construction. I still have my namco Tekken stick for ps1 and it still works great on ps2 games.

I want to try the fighter pads, tempted to pick one up to see how it plays, because it looks like the Sega Saturn pads which were awesome for Marvel vs Capcom.

yea but I dont care about some uber expensive themed ones, I mean dont they have a more generic brand of fighting sticks coming out that are up to par? Or did they do some crazy rocket science voodoo on these SF4 promo sticks?

Yes! Rockets, scientists, and witch doctors all came together to create the ultimate arcade stick. Unfortunatly their research came to an ubrupt end when some guy who claimed to be from a 'vault 101' decided to hit one of the rockets with a hammer.

if you're handr with tools and don't mind ripping up a few controllers, it can be a fun experience.
There are a few templates online for building this kind of stuff.

I have the hori EX2 fighting stick myself and it's awesome and cheaper than the SF4 sticks, even new.

I've bought from them before when assembling my own arcade cabinet. The buttons and sticks I got from them worked very well for years. (in fact, I still have them and they still work great, planning on building my own new stick with them soon) I would recommend one of their more basic 8-way joysticks, at least seven buttons (at least eight for the PS3 or 360, you need an extra button for the central button), and possibly some T-moulding for that authentic arcade feel.

As for the box itself, you'll get the most authentic feel from a slice of particle board. Solid lumber will be even more durable than particle board, but will be much more expensive.

jeeze im searching online and it seems almost every place is sold out or out of stock of the EX' sticks....

might be best to build 2 new sticks before the 17th..... -_-

Amazon has the 360 EX2 sticks in stock. All the 360 sticks that are currently out right now (DOA4, EX2, and SC4) are the same, except for the Real Arcade Pro EX, which costs like $70 more.

I actually have the DOA4 stick, but personally I think it needs to be modded. I prefer a shorter throw to the stick, and the stock buttons aren't my cup of tea.
