please ... please ... please just fix the one thing that took Dead Rising from a world of buzzing potential to the most arrogantly offensively awful game of the past 15 years
Wait... when was there any doubt? I thought it was already a sure thing that Blue Castle was doing this? They haven't exactly been keeping it too much of a secret...
Neat looking trailer though, looking forward to seeing how this turns out. I'd really like to see the saving system updated.
You missed nothing. The best thing about it was the demo. Unless they put in some serious design changes I won't be coming anywhere near this one... and I'll play just about anything with zombies in it.
I love it. I can't focus if you guys piss on my babies! God dammit! Fucking haters! *sigh* Fun fact: I had to buy my own copy when I moved out at Ian's (I used his copy) and then my little brother lost my copy so I had to buy another, and then he found it, so I have two copies, but just gave it to him. I love the game! I found the design smart and charming, not restrictive. The font was too small though, yeah, even on a large HDTV! Anyways...
"Wait... when was there any doubt?"
Yeah there was doubt, like a few times. It's been a roller-coaster for me. That's definitely like one of the two games I can think of that would be dream projects to work on that are coming out right now. The "MKR Group" who owns the rights to George Romero's Dawn of the Dead sued Capcom.
That basically caused these weird ups and downs in the press, saying it was coming, it wasn't.
"Inafune (creator of Dead Rising): I do really want to do Dead Rising 2. It's just still hard to get games for the Western market approved. [...] The original team has been split up and is working on different projects."
And even after news of a Western developer in California would be working on it.
Even now with this trailer there seems to be the same two answers:
These guys are saying it's a fake, and allegedly have an official denial from Capcom everyone else seems to be pointing to yes.
“We are not currently working on Dead Rising 2. We will announce a new title however, in the coming weeks so stay tuned.”
I'd have to say the save system was what made it feel like a zombie apocalypse, if I could just save where-ever and when-ever I wanted to, I would've done a hell of a lot more risky and ill-thought out stuff that I wouldn't have done otherwise...and that made it feel more zombie apocalypse, that I had to think about what I was doing, plan it out, take the right supplies, and pick my battles accordingly...

It's just that it's set up so that it's possible that you save yourself into an un-winnable position, and have to start everything over.

Oh yeah, forgot about that part...
...it ate an xbox live achievement when a survivor I was trying to bring to the security room ran between my heavy machine gun and the zombie it was aimed at right when I was pulling the trigger...
I can see how its inconvenient and would be frustrating having to start over every time.
I really felt there were these large intentional relationships in this game design that when they are viewed by themselves, they are questionable as good choices. Such as its save game system.
In my opinion, what made it "Good", more accurately I'd prefered the term "Charming", which is to implying my reason for considering it "Good", was the death options: When you die, you get the option to "Load Game" or "Save Status And Quit"
This, I felt, created an interesting dynamic with the option to start over, but instead of using a level 1 Frank West, you're using a level 20, or even 50, and because of this, you are at the start of the same day, but are faster, and stronger, more experienced, with more inventory slots... basically enabling you to access more of the same day. You could get to the other side of the mall faster than you could have at level 1, meaning you can access events you otherwise would have been able to at level 1. I've found myself squinted my eyes with a raised eyebrow many times while playing this game, thinking, now isn't that clever. It's not so much the mechanics separately, but interacting with one another that I found so great, multiple times. I felt the rules hosted a wonderful experience, and I still have many endings to still uncover. They basis of the game, I feel is this reward called the easteregg. I really think the game is just a glorified, easteregg hunt. Eggs that explode, slice and drain the blood of the walking dead! Glorious.
Oh god. I'm gonna have to go back and give the original more of a whirl now. I'm all for new characters. This new guy looks like some kind of vegas stuntman of something.
The first was fun for a while, but had a few deal breakers. I never got passed that sniper fight with carlito. Was really hard, and I wasn't convinced it would be worth it.
I'm cautiously optimistic about 2. I hope they improve it, because damn... lawnmowering hordes of zombies is sweeet.
I played the first one ever so briefly and as hard as I tried, I just couldn't get into it. I had originally borrowed a friend's copy, but the novelty of mowing down zombies wore off shortly after (blasphemy, right?) and I just got annoyed with the game and gave it back to my friend.
However, a few weeks later I had a massive craving to play the game. All the things that annoyed me the first time around I came to actually like and it was that very thing that made me want to play it again. To my astonishment, I couldn't find the game ANYWHERE for months. But eventually I did find it, though I haven't had a chance to play it again. I might have to give it another crack before the second one comes out.
aahahh that look fun, I like the double chainsaw shit, Hope its fun. I have to say that Chuck is ass ugly, The face, like marine said, is Realy sucky for a Main character, Ordinary, boring too, I really prefer the blond dude face shown in screenshot before. Thats a shame! hope they fix it!
3 things that need to happen for me to not hate the game.
1) I need to be able to read the fucking text.
2) I need to be able to throw my cellphone away, so that I NEVER get any calls from douchebag mcgee.
3) I need to be able to clear a section, and be reasonably certain that nothing is going to pop into existence behind me at any moment.

The trailer for the Wii port is awesome though.

In fact, its so "not awesome" that nobosy should ever be allowed to even say AWESOME and "Chop Till You Drop" in the same breath...
Seriously, Dead Rising was just screaming out for a coop mode so you and a friend could mow down the undread... With lawnmowers.

No Frank = No Camera = No erotica...
Ahh well. If DR2 has Vegas+Zombies+coop, but no Otis, its a defo buy either way...
Damn, I liked Frank as a protagonist though...if its set several years after Willamette, definately no Frank as a protagonist...
...however that would mean he's potentially roaming around as a zombie somewhere (if they followed the best ending of the first as canon)...
I'm cautiously optimistic about 2. I hope they improve it, because damn... lawnmowering hordes of zombies is sweeet.

FAIL
zombies aren't scary if they can't shamble up behind you!
hey, it's awesome if they fill in those areas from elsewhere, stumbling in to the gap I made. But just spawning in new ones is not ok.
