Hey everyone.
So my brother, being the radio station manager at his college, told me about this website yesterday. It is called
last.fm. My first reaction was "I barely use facebook... why would I want another social network?" But this is different... and to be honest... pretty cool. Basically you make a profile, sort of like facebook and myspace, then you download a program that will connect to itunes, wmp or whatever you use to play your music. The program will then upload live information on what you listen too... it will even upload and share what you are listening at any given time.
I don't know how many people are interested in this, but I would suggest you give it a try. Like I said above, my first impression was that it wasn't nessacary but I quickly changed my mind after checking it out.
If you do end up making a profile feel free to send me a friend request.

Oh sweet! Yeah I just joined. Sorry I didn't really know how long last.fm has been around... but whatever.
I used last.fm many years ago. But, it IS a networking site. I don't care to connect with anyone. No one cares about MY music interests. And the algorithm is pretty bad at finding music I actually like. I can't stop it from playing the bands I don't like.
For that, I've been using Pandora for a very long time now. Quick mix. Good selection of music. No clutter or networking. AND A F***ING PAUSE BUTTON!!! Easy to ban Nirvana.
Last.fm can be nice, since it works from the Wii.
We must be using two different last.fm's... it always find EXACTLY the right type of music for me :P
Then there are the times when you have a name used by more than one group, so it plays the other group which are in a totally different genre, and then thinks you want that genre added to your interests.
The biggest thing that LAst FM could do would add a - to tags for songs versus groups. So if you didn't like say, Industrial Goth, you could add that into your minuses.
But I just ban and move on. Elysium, as a linux user, I would think you would support Last FM since they actually have a Linux client. Versus having to have a web page open. And scrobbling your personal music.
You do listen to Guster... at least one of their songs. I've been to 3 of their concerts.
I sent you a friend request...
By the way... I like the TF2 Gordon Freeman on your website!
i find that i usually get better recommendations if i listen to my neighbors radio instead of the generated recommended, humans are better at handling that stuff than machines i guess but like you guys brought up, i started listening to a singer/songwriter album quite far from what i usually like and now it thinks I'm into emo dudes with guitars...
That would be pretty sick.
