oh man this is badass...the characters dont look that highres from the quick glimpses but damn im looking forward to it! i played the demo to death when it came out, was so mindblowingly good! and the full game...man i lost too many days to that game..
For me it as all about playing 1942 over the office network back in the old Oddworld days.
BF2 was cool and all, but felt a little old after playing a shit ton of the Desert Combat mod for 1942. Course, it helped that I didnt really play BF2 in quite the same setting as 1942...
Personally I was most addicted to BF2, but had a lot of fun in BF1942. I hope they pump the player count to something crazy like 128 players, the BF games could definitely use some of the epic sized battles with tons of players like in Planetside!
Hmm, BF1942 was always my favourite of the BF series. Pretty arcadey and fun - looks like they've kept this gameplay style, which is nice.
Environments look pretty good, vehicles are nice - characters and animations looked pretty bad in that trailer tho, effects were pretty rubbish too.
I'd probably be happy if it's just a kind of expansion + new engine for the 1942 gameplay, with some extra maps, vehicles and weapons.
One thing they need to make sure of is to make the Soldier class actually useful, most of the time you were much better off playing Medic since that class got the same weapon loadout for the most part, but also medpacks ... so there was no reason to play soldier...
Gah, my WWII-genre puke reflex just kicked in hard. :P
It looks very pretty, but watching that vid I get a very strong 'been there, done that, next' feeling. I just hope they've added some new game-play mechanics to breathe some new life into the old girl.
That said, there's a 99% chance I'll buy a copy of this when it drops regardless.
I'm surprise and very glad to hear this. I loved 1942. My only complaint was that it suffered from the technology of the time. Plus, many many bugs. But overall the game was great.
Wake Island was too much fun. Wake Island for BF2 was ok, but not as great. The second map in the video was also a favorite of mine, I forget the name. Good to see them again in new lighting.
I prefer the arcade feel to the series over realism. And the vibrant colors will make the hours and days of playing easier on the eyes. Definitely on my buy list. Good to see EA is letting them give the gamers what they actually want. Now, release Battlefield Heroes.
I find both the name of this product and the existence of BF: Heroes to be very mystifying. Do we really need both? Heroes seemed like a distillation of what was the core experience of BF (absurd fun) and to release a product alongside it that is trying to pretend said satiric distillation doesn't exist or that folks won't act like idiots because the graphics got 'serious' again is misguided, no?
I've played a bit of Heroes, and trust me, it's way different from the traditional battlfield feel. Plus, it's free to play and item-sales based, whereas 1943 is a more traditional game. Bad Company is the one that seems like the odd one out to me.
I would of enjoyed the original Bad Company more if it was co-op, especially since your Ai partners were really only there for commentary, they were invincible and you couldn't count on them in a firefight.
Do it, Brome! I mean, now you almost have to if you want to be taken seriously as an administrator in the future
I wouldn't doubt it. Got Adam his first industry gig and never got a thanks. MEANIE!
Doc, that makes it much more appropriate imo. If it's just a few pacific maps, I'd rather see a $15 price point though. Small and download only, I'm okay with this rehash. I assumed (since we had no info) that it was going to be a full released box game, which I thought was ridiculous.
Man, I'm torn about this game. I didn't get into Battlefield until BF2, and the only one I own is 2142. I've kinda been looking forward to a revisit to the older games that people remember so fondly.
But from what I hear, this'll be super-arcadey. Kotaku reports unlimited ammo and rechargable health, and only three classes. No medic (because of rechargable health), no engineer. So I just don't know how to feel about it yet...

...would have preferred a BF3

yay? Total rehash and a poor attempt by EA to get money quick.
I can't wait for this.
fixed.
sounds like a profitable test to bridge the gap in time and tech between now and battlefield 3.

1943, badcomp2, and heroes are all different games.
While i did like them a lot in the original BF42, give me some African Theatre Maps - loved flying in those.
Not really, Heroes is PC and 1943 is PS3/360.
edit:
oh didnt know they did it for pc.

Battlefield 1943: Pacific is a download only, multiplayer game for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC
The game is scheduled for release this summer with an expected price point between $15 to $20. The download size of the game will be around 350MB
That explains a lot. It is interesting though. I hope they keep the great innovations of squad play and voice commands.
