"Joystiq has learned from several well-placed sources that a second round -- a much more serious round -- of layoffs has struck Mythic Entertainment. These cuts go further and deeper than the last round, which saw several members of the support staff let go. Current estimates indicate that between 60 and 130 people have been let go. These layoffs most certainly affect the development staff, and we've been told extend even to the ranks of senior designers. These rumored layoffs come less than a week after the announcement of a full-scale live event expansion for Warhammer Online."
I'm amazed at all these layoffs still happening at the start of the year. My company laid more people off AGAIN just last Friday. This economy is getting damn frightening
Sucks to keep hearing about all these layoffs. Myself and 6 others just got laid off last week, here's hoping we all, like Vig said, "land on our feet". : /
Good luck everyone, don't give up.
Times are bad and going to get a little worse before it gets better. But I don't think anyone here is unhirable. We're all pretty damn talented.
My contract ends in about 3 months, so I'll be in the same boat with the rest of you. I can't imagine what's going to happen if I can't get another job. With the bills I have, I haven't been able to save any money. So I'll have to withdrawl from what's left of my 401k.
I think we're going to find a lot of people in the future who don't have 401k's to retire on because of the economy today. You aren't the first person that I've heard who have started using their 401ks to survive right now.
I don't know if they've made it any easier to dig into your 401k but the last news I heard was that there are some pretty stiff requirements for doing it and then the tossed on some penalties on top of that. I think you have to file for a hardship wavier before you can access the funds. Then I think they tax it all to hell and lock the account for 6mo no more withdraws or deposits.
That is, if there's anything left in your 401k after Wall Street is done having its way with your money.
we just let go of 9 people at my office, in addition to the 4 that left in the past 3 months, the 2 that were fired (mysteriously) and another 7 lay offs back in november... at our height the company had just over 100, I think we're back down to 70ish. All I can say is that employee morale continues to find new lows.
I'm worried since I'd most definitely need to relocate if I had a strong enough portfolio... but montreal isthe only option for mobile, and if I spend 4 or 5 months putting together a 3d port, nobody is hiring, and if they are, there's a ton more experienced people out there over me.
but for the time being, I'm still employed.. knocking on wood.

"Hopefully everyone will land on their feet."
I'm going to just put that in my signature, I'm getting tired of typing it.
If you feel like coming to Boston, we're hiring character and environment artists. Send me a PM.
