heres a piece I finished a few weeks ago. even though I have it put together in to a sheet, I think that it could still use some work, and am looking for suggestions.
The lowpoly and normals look great! But the texture spoils it I think... Not enough clear material distinction. (the doom3 assets are great in that aspect)
Thanks pior... I'd agree, specifically on the upper portion. I'll talk with some of my profs and see how I might be able to fix this... I'm thinking I'm losing believability in the spec.
This is looking really cool man, but a lot of the details are being lost with the diffuse and spec as others have mentioned. I'm interested to see how you fix it. BTW, did you bake AO?
You have too many big bubbly shapes in your spec. It's too visually noisy overall. Clean this up, take only the normals that show form and a flat color diffuse and work up carefully on diffuse and specular. Less is more in the case of materials like this.
The high res could do with alot more details and the low res with some more geometry, for instance some of the side details aren't coming through very well at all and overall a similar effect is seen which is affecting the whole shader.
Losing that keyboard at the top would be beneficial to design as suggested, instead add a nice looking faded font, maybe as a decal?
The bottom of the machine where the tape is could do with less tape, I would make a squarish area of tape and then add a font in the middle like a voltage warning.
I think you'd get a bigger bang out of this if you rebaked, copied and desaturated the normal map, adding it to the diffuse using a blending mode that looks nice. Should help convey some more realism.

also is that a keypad on the top? it seems like a very odd place to have one.

This is all opinion of course but hope it helps
As with the last piece, there's a seam, it's below the upper keyboard at the edge there- , you better work on whatever you're doing there.
Other than that lookin really cool.
