Female character

Hiya.

Just thought I'd share this and get some pointers on how to improve it and maybe someone could toss in some tips on how to make her face feel less cartoony/animeish...or it might just be me that thinks it looks like that.

Anyway here's a viewport render of what I've got so far, will update this when I have more to show.

Nose is a bit thick in my opinion, and you might have a couple extra loops in the nose and chin area. If you lose the loop that ends on a 5-star bellow the bottom lip and instead move the one on its left (my point of view, not actual) to take its place it could be a bit better?

Also the upper lip seems strange right now, I think it could do with being a bit more pointy in the middle.

That said, I think your form and shape of the face is pretty good - doesn't look too anime-ish to me, she just looks like she's not skinny. Which isn't a bad thing in my opinion. Maybe if you made the eyes a bit smaller?

t4paN made some good points about the nose, and as for the lips, I think a slight dip at the center of the palate would help (push those two verts in and downward). Study real faces closely and you should be able to get most of the anatomical aspects (I usually pick a real ref, model, actor, etc and base it on that since it helps to gauge how real you're getting the model).
You do have major issues with the palate / cheek edge flow - they're spanning horizontally now. They should go downward in a trapezoid pattern (couldn't find a good photo straight off but here's one http://www.condenast.co.uk/imagelib/320x360/d_f/FaceMap_Girl3_320.jpg)
But overall silhouette seems good and not really anime-ish like you were saying; at this early stage, I guess you don't feel the model is as compelling so you maybe feeling its cartoonish. You get a lot more realism and character once the other maps (color / normals) are applied.

    A few pointers.

    1) THe eyes are too much apart. I would align them straight above where the nostrils start. Having one eye lenght between the eyes.

    2) The ears doesn't have form yet. For first thing the upper part should come more off from the head.

    3) Would work more on the lips.

    4) It's hard to see for sure from this angle, but I think the skull is too small compared to the jaw.

Which program are you using for modeling BTW?

    1. The eyes were this far apart in the ref pic I used.
    2. They're still very early..just wanted something instead of a flat surface.
    3. I will.
    4. I could get a better angled shot for you.

    I use 3ds max..
