Have any of you ever heard of a man named Luke Ahearn?
I can't mention why, but his name came up where I work recently. SUPPOSEDLY he worked at the MOVES institute on America's Army, among other games for other places, and wrote some books on game art.
These are his supposed credentials:

I can't say why I have suspicions, but something about this schmoe just doesn't ring true.

A lot of folk at uni were on about his texture creation one, but I've not read it myself.
I have the game texturing book ( [ame]http://www.amazon.com/3D-Game-Textures-Professional-Photoshop/dp/0240807685/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1233420248&sr=8-2[/ame] ), and while it was a disappointment in that it didn't cover anything other than painting 2d environment textures (for what seemed like PS2 specs...in 2006) the dude knew what he was doing for that stuff - it was just not cutting-edge texture creation.
Looking at his website and the abundance of Poser stuff and Casual Games stuff he doesn't seem to demonstrate a strong knowledge of modern game-art techniques, but he is creating art, some of it for games. So is it possible that some of your suspicions stem from the fact that he and you have radically different definitions of "game artist"?
