Some 5 years ago, omg!
This thing was a major pain, there was sooo much i didnt understand, like if you leave a hole in your highpoly, you'll get garbage results in your bake. And attempting to paint out "errors" which i later found to be gradiations to account for smoothing, and painting out errors from the highpoly(because most of the highpoly was done using poly modeling, so i had some funky smoothing in some areas, lol).

doom3 ftw
Also BLOOOOOOOOOOM
God what was I thinking.
Hell, you can get my ancient portfolio at www.ghostscape.com/oldportfolio. Theres a lot more laughable shit in there
Cool huh?
at the time i had no idea about xnormal, so I had to use max to bake out the normalmap. had to load up lower subdivs since the machine didnt have enough ram, stitching seams together in photoshop, doesnt even look like its normalmapped. fun stuff, learned tons from it
Cannot even tell their is a Normal map on too haha. I think I mad a poor height map and used crazy bump at the time.
This is what I consider to be my first real high-poly to low poly model asset (meaning, no crazy bump or zbrush involved)

This was the first normal mapped anything i made, 2004 i think? anyways, did it just before i quit, they didn't change a thing, didn't credit me either, but thats the way it goes...
Amazement - first one using baked shapes, though still rather atrocious.
wow wait i haven't finished anything since, nobody has any reason to believe i've even improved
mine:
I made one normal mapped texture before this but i cant find it.
No one should be hanging their head!!
With SSS!
Back in the days:
Waaaaay to much time spent on this hehe!
My first normal mapped model was a bust of "Marsala" from exo-squad. Going on 4-5 years old now.
or maybe it was this ( I don't remember which):
I think mine was this guy, a few years ago (first proper baked):
Jay: Great to see these, those assets have become and instant argument winner every time someone tries to claim that you can not animate object space meshes, or that you can, but not deform them! sillyness
BF:V
Brown diapers and socks for everyone!
Dominance War stuff, really messy model/map/sculpt. This is a year old now, I improved a shitload, hope I can show you guys during this years DW
These 2 were my first normalmapped things, dunno in which order.
ugh those textures...
sadly I dont have a render, I only have this old ingame shot...
. . . look pretty damn good.
Blaizer: I remember him from your site. You should do more, even if only for personal art. It's great!
I'll have to see if I can track down my first normal map action.
