3ds max viewport errors
hey guys
i have a few issues with 3ds max. its been happening for a month or so now, and i've never really bothered to ask around about it.
it finally ticked me off today when i had to reinstall max 9 just to have the following happen again:
1) when i open a window that is over the viewport, parts of it randomly disappear, unless i minimize and maximize. they disappear in the sense that i cant see them anymore, but i can still push their buttons. otherwise, i see thru them. this happens with material editor, render viewport, hypergraph etc etc. even the save window
2) often, when i right-click for the quad-menu, i get nothing. the quad menu pops up, but i cant see it. i can click all its buttons and everything, and they all function.
these above problems are wat i have 3ds max 9 stuck on right now. im heading off to bed, hoping theres some solution to these that doesnt involve a re-install.
if u guys have any tips, i'd be greatful

i knew i was forgetting something
my computer is running on NVidia GeForce 8600 GT, driver ver. 178.13.
in case it makes a difference, im on a windows xp, dx 9.0c enabled computer.
this problem is only recent, on this computer, and i've never seen it before.
i tried driver updates before, and it didn't help, but i'll try again.

Then check the Choose driver tab,What DX version are you useing?Hardware,software?
Then what does the last button say? revert from Direct 3d or open gl?
Also check what version u have installed in Windows!
Start->Run->and type Dxdiag and hit enter
@Thewiruz: its dx 9.0, hardware. and the last button says 'direct 3d'. as for my computer, i have direct x 9.0c runnin on windows xp
its been that for a few years now, never caused any trouble before
new drivers dont fix the issue, btw. its just as annoying now as it was before

This doesnt happen in any other applications?like games for an example?
I also assume you have Servicepack 1 and 2 installed for 3ds max 9?

you find some hotfixes here also but it sorts some other problems i think

Thats all i can think of if your hardware is ok.
open gl is worse of than d3d, and dx8 shows no difference
and i do have both service packs, and all hotfixes installed...

It also looks like you're running some kind of custom windows theme? You might want to revert back to a basic standard theme, and disable any 3rd party theme software you might be running?
When all else fails its time to shut down 3rd party apps...
