photoshop performance in vista (32/64)

Hi folks,

I´m using vista 32bit atm on my laptop and photoshop gives me some strange and annoying performance breaks

ps CS: the brush-tool is very laggy and after I´ve used the hand-tool everything is even more laggy

ps CS3: the brush-tool / marquee-tool sometimes gets a bit dull if i used the hand-tool before.. the funny thing is: if i use the navigation window instead of the hand-tool everything is ok.. wtf?!.. well realy.. WTF??!!

does anybody has stumbled over simillar problems?! I´ll test vista 64 bit in a few days .. if nothing helps I try to go back to XP... (and ps 7 if neccessary grr)

I have 32 bit vista, and have no issues in CS2 or CS4 with lag of any sort. I use a lot of tools when doing paintings/vector work, or texture stuff...but haven't had any lag. Might be a resources issue?

I had 32 bit vista up till a couple months ago. I never had any problems with any version of photoshop. Have you tried completely reinstalling photoshop? Uninstall it but before you install it again go to the Program Files and make sure that there are no photoshop files.

atm I can work with it using the navigation window..
will see if there are any changes with the 64bit switch

Have you tweaked/changed your settings in the "Plug-ins & Scratch Disks" and the "Memory & Image Cache" under the "Edit > Prefrences" menu in Photoshop yet?

I had brush lag with my CS3 for ages (vista x64) randomly, it all went away when i switched to the aero theme. Not sure why, but having aero disabled was actually the reason for my brush lag.

I saw another post somewhere in polycount that said something similar too. Something about 3d max forcing aero users to switch to classic, which then causes lag problems in photoshop because of using classic theme.

thx guys.. but I´ve tried the "easy tricks" long before .. I guess its realy vista eating my memory (and ps beeing stupid on the edge of out-of-ram it seems ..
) with the 64bit switch i´m at least able to use my 4gb ram. hope this will help (and anyhow.. I´m able to upgrade up to 8 gb.. and then.. if i have still problems .. it´s not my ram´s fault *G*)

I have a quad core with 64-bit vista and I have 8GB ram, it's not ram's fault.

I was having the same problem. I turned Aero back on and my photoshop performance increased dramatically. Running 3ds max though will disable aero. Does running Maya not disable Aero?
