Download the trials and try the games, not every game is meant for every person. Ikaruga especially is not for everyone.
I would suggest Rez and possibly Mega Man 9, other than that have to second N+, Bionic Commando, Castle Crashers.
Although with castle crashers my friend has had nothing but issues getting an online game going. I can't comment personally since my school's residence screws up any online play on the 360
Castle Crashers: yeah online is broken but the patch is coming... eventually.. Half Life 2:Portal: Still alive and kicking ass. Rez: Awesomeness... fun for you and up to 3 other vibrating controllers. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: Still the best Castlevania ever. Megaman 9: Old school game play and an old school ass kicking.
If you are into old school fighters then pick up Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Super Street Fighter 2 HD Remix.
Definitely play castle crashers and braid... those games rock so hard. If you're lookin for a real refreshing game to play with a partner, play some Schizoid. It really doesn't get enough credit for the most enjoyable coop experience out there.
Castle crashers is a game i´d only recommend if you had a case of beer and 3 buddies to go with it. If you have that... then it´s the best game evahr on xbla
along with what others said and in the same vein, not meant for everyone:
1942 : joint strike
Commando 3
Banjo-kazooie
Triggerheart Exelica
Streets of Rage 2
Alien Hominid (by the creators of castle crashers, insanely hard)
Prince of persia
Pacaman CE can ruin your life as much as geometry wars
Jetpac refuelled can do it too
Exit
It all depends on your type of game, really, you can also find a ton of oldies and ports of various quality, as it was suggested before, try the trial versions beforehand

on second thought, get penny arcade adventures for the pc, xbox controller doesnt feel right.
N+
Castle Crashers
Rez
Pacman Championship Edition
Braid (a must play)
Geometry Wars 2
and Castle Crashers (shame about the amount of bugs though).
Braid (makes your brain hurt awesome gameplay)
Schzoid (uses both sides of your brain, awesome unique gameplay)
Geometry Wars2
Castle Crashers
Rez (classic Dreamcast game)
this, because it's super mega fucking awesome.
and it'll be better when the patch hits
Pinball FX, and Geometry Wars seem to have the most replay value.
For nostalgia: Castlevania Symphony of the Night, Worms, and Street Fighter 2.
