I know a lot of the guys that were let go and it's sad because a lot of them are really talented guys and it's shitty to be let go 2 weeks before Xmas.
If anyone from Midway Chicago reads these boards hit me up with a pm, email and your portfolio.
I hear that a lot (sucks to be before xmas). Unfortunately, Christmas just falls at the end of a business cycle, so it ends up like that for companies every year. Of course, losing a job is always badly timed
Good luck to all in these coming days, since it is that time of year for layoffs.
Damn, I thought places where done setting the budgets for next year and laying people off. Pretty lame they waited this long... I hope everyone lands on their feet, albeit that's going to be harder and harder for people to do if people keep getting laid off... Good luck guys.
Sorry but there was more than writing on the wall for months. This was inevitable for a long time and unfortunately people stuck around (some of my friends included). We had a guy turn down a part-time job here so he could full-time intern at Midway and be a junior level guy in january. I said the company wouldn't last that long, everyone did. Too many of you weren't even looking for jobs... how much worse can a company do without closing before people leave? I'm sure some were riding it out for severance, but for the others... seriously, have some initiative and take charge of your life. So sorry, I don't have sympathy for the Austin guys, I hope they land on their feet, but the ship has been sinking for so long it is their own fault for being on board still.
So yeah I know that was a douchebag thing to say and I am just naive or arrogant or whatever, but that's my honest opinion and I wanted to write it.
Edit: This was supposed to go in the Austin/Texas thread.
Sorry to all the guys involved in these layoffs - some guys from our Newcastle UK office accepted jobs and went over not long ago and have been caught up in this which must be really tough.
As easy as it may be to point fingers at people for sticking around and not being able to predict the future of a company as easy as others, these layoffs were pretty much directly a response to Sumner Redstone's sale of his Midway stock. The follow on to this being the ability of the creditors to demand payment for the debt within a very short timeframe which couldn't have been foreseen by many people outside of those with access to Redstone's accounts. I doubt that this was a long-term planned move by upper management.
Just wanted to put the other side of the coin out there aswell.
It is always sad to hear this type of thing especially in this economy and this time of year. Please hit me up if you affected and we can explore a position here at Blizzard Entertainment. My email is kcarvalho@blizzard.com.

Absolutely terrible thing to happen. And a week before Christmas too.
I hope everyone who lost their jobs, have a fantastic holidays anyways, and land on their feet really soon in the new year.

You'd be surprised how often it happens. My condolences to everyone affected.
