[UPDATE 09.02.09]
finished the sculpting and did a renderscene I will use for all my future high poly renders
[UPDATE 10.01.09]
Didn't do a character for quite some time and never did something post apocalyptic.
So, I thought, it would be nice to kill two birds with one stone.
The character is loosly based on this concept

I started the concept yesterday and I think this version is a good start

One crit though, I was thinking the head would pop out of the suit more. The brown peice (above the brown hood) looks a little off to me and could be what's through it off. But then again, it could just be me trying to find something to crit.
Really good work!

What I really like about it is that you get the idea in first glance but when you look closer, its some real simple lines and shapes. Are you going to make side/front views for modelling sake or just from that view?
no man I dig this piece so far, but the front armor for some reason seems half life 2ish (just demon monster behind it?)
Not sure if your looking for crits on the actual concept but it looks somewhat flat, the shading is allright but the forms seem to lack some punch. Might want to use some constructive "bigger shapes" to make it easier to get it right.
I think I'm actually going to start some character concepts myself ^_^ Thanks for the inspiration. =]
Can't wait to have another one. Let's get this baby fitted for her prom in a nice polygonal dress.

The colors are easy on the eyes, and the rythme and spacing are appealing
GJ on the concept
To be nit-picky:
I think you could have some more facial asymmetry or some other novel mutation going on. As it is, he looks like a fat man-rabbit/rat. A cool one, but could use some conceptual massaging.
yay give him bunny ears!
Will you go for the full character or just head & shoulder area?
Greetz.
thanks for the comments
@BradMyers : I don't have any drawing skills without an zbrush sculpt as a base i wouldn't be able to draw anything.
@McGreed: I used Maya for basic modeling, zbrush for rough sculpting and photoshop.
@seforin: I will try to add a little bit more tear to make it fit to the character
@StJoris: Thanks for the advice, I'm not that good at painting, that's why the picture is kind of flat..
@Slingshot: I used Maya for basic modeling, zbrush for rough sculpting and photoshop. (will post some pictures after i finished)
@ScoobyDoofus: that's what i will do this weekend
@Slave_zero: just a bust, don't have the time to make a whole character..
If I had to find something (and it's just a matter of taste) I'd recheck the mouth area and make it a little bit bigger (vertivcal), it's a bit less realistic but this is something that directly catch my eyes in the spacemonkey's drawing *focus point*
Or maybe it's just the teeth? don't know ^^
Anyways, what a sweet start !
good luck on the rest of him
btw we should speedsculpt again next week at lunchtime!

More tape or a hasty/shoddy weld job would fit the bill better, methinks.
Hope you are going to add those puches and packs to him!!
That aside, I think some decent worn edges and slime around where the face meets the armor would look slick.
maybe tack on some metal parts/crusty skin details as well.

so cool!
I've been loving this thing since concept and it's nice to see it coming to life.
here is a quick render of the skin shader and texture
