Trying to get a feel for lighting now. With all the geo needed for 128x128 max size per individual texture, it seems vertex lighting is really the ideal solution?. Guess ill have to learn that... if anyone has a tutorial on it for max please share, otherwise i think this one?
That boats looking really nice.
Oddly enough there was a program on tv a few weeks back (Paul Merton in India)
where he took a trip on a boat similar to your one. Amazing design, they live on them which
must be really cool.
Did a search for Kerala rice boat, think this was the sort of thing, if it helps:
For the vertex lighting, havent got any tutorials but heres a potted version of how to go about it:
Light your scene, go to "Utilities" - "Assign Vertex Colors" -
and select vertex color, lighting only, color by vertex... and then hit Assign.
In object properties make sure you check "vertex channel display".
Then switch yr lights off and you should see the vertex lighting.
Theres probably a load of stuff I've missed but that should get you started.
You can paint light information on too which is cool.
Nice boat!
Yes I was searching "house boat" on flickr and came upon these Kerala boats from india... I had never seen them before so I thought I would model it for this. Im glad you posted that pic though... the background, I was wondering what kind of trees to put in... Too bad though that your concept picture has a lot more interest than my concept pic ><
Im trying to come up with something horror in terms of lighting. I heard that a lot of the horror film sets of yore had top down spot lights on subjects of interest.. so something like that Im going for...
Jared was pretty altogether pissed that he let his girlfriend talk him into a rice farm boat cruise, that is until just now, when he was asked to man the window with the mounted 2-stroke engine, and to give anything moving an aggressive buzz cut.

And then, I realized... whats more safer than down on the docks?
Down on A BOAT!
Im at about 4500tris with lake and hills, so I need to cut back some to get enough to reinforce it from Amphibious Zombious.
