I need a new set of headphones at work, and I am trying to decide what would be a good set. I have no knowledge of what makes a good headphone, nor do I know where to start. Any ideas?
At the moment im just using some £20 Sony headphones which have served me well, i dont really know jackshit about headphones and my mind boggles when i see some going for £500-1000.
Sennheiser is always a good way to go in my opinion. I just have the px100's because I wanted mine to be very portable, anyways the sound quality is great and they were quite cheap. Of course for use on a computer getting larger sennheisers would probably be the best idea. Hope that helped some.
sony mdr-v700s at home, gauss gave me them for FREE and they are AWESOME, greattttt if you like the bass.
And at work i've got some noise canceling Panasonic rp-hc500, which are great active-NC cans. Its like being in your own little world, which is great because everyone is crammed in a small little space at our studio. you do get albmost... Clostrophic from them tho, and can get a little bit of a headache too from using them all day, but they work as advertised and reduce a good amount of outside noise, and the sound quality is decent for a NC set.
The sony's are much better quality, but the seal doesn't compare to the Panasonics. So depending on what you need them for! I've also got a pair of suround sound turtle beach phones, that can be nice for games and such too, but wouldn't recomend them for general usage.
I've tried some Sennheiser's but they really seem to lack bass, i know people will argue that this is the "correct" way to listen to music, or whatever, but too me they just sound weak and underpowered. Its all personal preference tho, if you like a more treble-y sound, the Sennheiser's will be great. Also Gauss's Sennheiser's bleeeeed like a bitch, esp high freqs. You can always tell when he's listening to little girl music.
I've had a pair of Sennheiser HD555's for about 1,5 years now. Really solid headphones, great sound quality and durability. They do however let out alot of noise or whatever into the surroundings.
I have Sony MDR-V600 for the PC (EQ beat me~) and they're decent. I like them. Hurt my head sometimes by pressing into the glasses earpieces, but if I put on a hood or beanie under the headphones it doesn't matter. Mp3 player has these little Sennheiser canal phones - they are very nice; I recommend trying canal phones at some point if you have never.

expensive, yes, but well worth the price tag if u are an audiophile.
test it out in-store if ur not sure about quality, but i swear on my life its the best set of headphones i've ever used!
I use an AKG pro K-66, this is mostly for professional audio mixing and someone who appreciate technician audio. It doesnt have nothing special, just pure audio quality as it is, no amplifying and no effect that distorts the audio.
DT770Pro from Beyerdynamic
Pros:
-Super light yet sturdy professional studio headphone,
-studio quality sound
-great bass
-VERY comfortable, you can wear them all day every day and it`s like you forget it`s on
-totally kills all bg noise
-will last for years
Cons: Hate to sound like a fan boy but there is none really.
I have mine for 2 years now, works perfectly even tho I dropped it a few times, sat on it and stuff like that. again this is a professional headphone but if you`re like me and use it nonstop it well worth the price! (~80quid)
If you could try this in a shop you will see /hear :cool:/ what I`m on about.
Since I snapped my old wired headphones off in the jack (only half the pin, too, so I have no way of getting it out - believe me, I've tried) by rolling over the cord all the time I switched to these, and they're great. My only complaint is that it took me and a co-worker a bit to make sure we weren't fighting each other's signals, since they tune in to whatever is available, and if they tune in to my co-workers while I'm not broadcasting (the base station stops transmitting after 5 minutes of silence) I have to re-tune to mine when I start broadcasting, and vice versa, and this confused us at first while we were trying to straighten out who was using which channel
Also they do not like travelling through the elevator shaft - walking to the other side of the building they cut out when its between me and my workstation. But they're great for zipping down to the close kitchen.
Pretty good for the price although definitely what'd be considered "entry level". The swivel earpiece bit is useful for the office, too. Can hear people try and talk to you and listen to music at the same time.
-Superawesome quality
-light weight
-long cable
-Brilliant sound quality, but may lack a little bit of bass... but that's not that present while listening.
I'll put another vote in for the AKGs. I've got a pair of K100s that have lasted for years. Excellent sound and build quality and free of the Sennheiser "everyone thinks we're awesome so we can charge twice as much" tax.
Sennheiser cx300s for on the go, and need some new work cans as mine have been buggered for a while, at home a pair of ancient floorstandard speakers placed either side of my ears, they cancel out noise by drwoning it with bass (not very portable)
