Is it possible to render to texture an Ambient Occlusion map. If I just have the low poly model and no hi res model for projection mapping?

Ive been trying it with the render to texture dialog box and just not enable projection mapping and render to texture a lighting map and Raytrace material on the object and a skylight in the scene

Its not really coming out the way I had expected so I was wondering is there a another way to go about this.

Thanks so much for any help

I think I just figured it out. I render to texture with MR and no need for lights or raytrace, correct?

i made one really quick with lighttracer and a skylight + a sphere with some beveling and a 5sec unwrap. is this what you dont want it to look?

Yes you can, and this is how :D

Make sure Mental Ray is your Assigned Renderer
    Select your Low Poly >
Open Render To Texture Window >
Make Sure Enabled under Projection Mapping is UNCHECKED >
Select The "Options" button next to it >
    UNCHECK "Use Cage" >
    CHECK "Include Working Model" >
Close Options window, make sure "Use Existing Channel" is ticked for Object and Channel 1 is selected >
Select "Add" - Ambient Occlusion (MR)" >
Set up your map size, file name and type, etc >
I usually set the Samples to about 30 and Spread to about 1.0 under Selected Element Unique Settings >
    Render

I think this is all right
