Hello agains
Got some new work that i created for my college project... obviously doesn't need maxium care at this stage, but i'd love to hear what could be changed and all that...
Do Note that some aren't fully finished but are however nearing completion, i don't skin so there are no textures... just the plain Grey.
Thanks anyway... here they are
M4 Carbine - Used a High Res Image of the front to model it... however i made it a little too thick, thinning it down makes iit look too squasshed so better luck next time i guess...
Combat Knife... basic however created fairly quickly (not that i rush, i take my time but was created within 20 mins)
I like it, doesn't really have to be changed either... used a 1024 x 768 Reference to help me out.
I have some others but Listerine in my mouth is burning lol... so ill post some more tommorow.
Thanks everyone!

Overall, I think that the main housing and clip are just too wide. Consult your references again, and think about the gun from all different angles. this gun might look good from profile, but looks like a total box from 3/4.
I reckon you try some skinning too, it'll take you a lot further.
Yes i shall give it a quick modify,
question is bar the handle... does it look like it could belong in a game?
your weapon is not a fantasty sci fi shooter weapon, but UT3 or, TF2, or Call of Duty would be excellent resources for inspiration and quality when setting the bar to see how your own in-game weapons should look.
There is also some smoothing issues on the exstruded parts by the handle and on the main part (the black triangle) that acturally looks like you have a vert thats not been welded properly.
The knife also looks like it may have some smooth group issues.
Dont render on black as its hard to see .
good luck.
John
I think this is a big improvement over your previous posts tho. Keep at it.
Also, you should post some wires. Turn edge faces on, if your using max, and just grab a screen shot. And set the back ground to some shade of grey. Flat black is not very good. People give much more useful feedback if they see your wires.
Also, what is the project? It doesn't really seem optimized for anything. The barrel is hi poly, the magazine, handle, are faceted and low poly. If it's hi poly, you need WAY more details. If it's low poly, the barrel tip is just too round.
You really should post wire frames.
Created this model within an hour and a half, gave it a quick clean up and added a few details which added on another half hour... so overall 2 hours to get it "complete" (of course there are errors).
I'm glad to hear that i'm improving Finally starting to feel good about myself, however i don't think my modelling is quite up to "Good" standard just yet... (where i can make people say "WoW, thats great work, keep it up!")
Only 10 weeks into my modelling experience, been pretty rough the first couple of weeks, criticism is hard to take on my other models, not sure why but i'm still working on improving my ability.
The chamfer tool i found out today (well i knew about it all along) but its so useful! Smoothing off edges, rounding objects off and giving it a nice clean bend into a object BRIIILLIANT! I thought.
I'm going to model a SA-80
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SA80
as my next modelling project, i'm going to spend a little more care in getting the proportions correct, this time no wide handles, i'll use a cylinder for the handle too.
My College Project is a simple enviroment with a bit of story and game play aspects added in. This gun i modeled was for fun, to improve my ability and to add in into my enviroment, the gun doesn't need to be perfect for this environment (yes i should of given it more love as you've said but i got alot of work to get on with, i modelled a Bath AND a Sink today lol, not posting though. Its not interesting enough)
Anyways, thanks everyone for your insight and support! I shall model onwards.
