Hello,

a brief introduction about myself. :)
My name is Jonathan Janevski. I am 21, currently a student studying computer science and embedded systems at Southern Adventist University. I love programming, technology, and science. I am a game addict, which has lead me to game programming as a hobby. I program in c/c++ for PC and mainly Sony PSP. I am learning OpenGL for PC and I currently use a form of OpenGL for Sony PSP Graphics. My homepage is http://jj.iamjunkie.net.

Right now I am working on programming an FPS multiplayer type game for PSP. It will be some sort of DM/TDM game involving guns/war/things-that-go-boom! :) I am a huge fan of the HL and Quake series. This is not going to be an unrealistic frag game though. I am more interested in conventional weapons and slug type weapons. I really want to push the PSP hardware as far as I can and try to produce some of the nicest visuals. Here is a screenshot of an environment engine I was working on for the PSP. It has an autonomous day night cycle and the sun revolves around the terrain and changes the lighting accordingly. The sky is procedurally colored an the terrain is loaded dynamically from a heightmap. Fun stuff.

I was going through the low-poly count model thread here. Incredible talent here. I nearly wet myself on quite a few of those images. Thus leads me to my request.

(NOTE: I will follow the gamedev.net request template since I noticed you guys don't have one setup yet.)
Team name:
No team. Just me.

Project name:
Fields of Fire

Brief description:
Multiplayer DM and TDM game. Modern day settings using standard slug weapons and explosives. Battle locals will feature woods, fields, small towns, mostly nature and guerrilla warfare spots. I think I want to go with guerrilla style rag-tag soldiers and not special ops military units.

Target aim:
I plan on releasing this as a free download to anyone who is interested in playing it. It will be a homebrew free to download, free to share game, as long as the credit is given to the original authors!

Compensation:
This game is strictly a hobby game. I am doing this purely out of love of video games and learning about technology. Also there is the added fact of being a pyro freak and loving guns/war. :p I do not plan on selling this game. The only payment I can offer is having hundreds of people on the internet download this work once it is done and the glory that goes with it.

Technology:
Target system is the Sony PSP. The list of hardware specs can be found here:http://wiki.ps2dev.org/psp:hardware_specifications
for those who are interested.
I will be programming in c/c++ and I will be using the PSP GU which is very similar to OpenGL.

Talent needed:
I really don't know anyone here. I believe I have seen LEViATHAN make some posts over at psp-programming.com forums before IIRC, and I was really captured by Racer445's gun(s). :)

The talent I'm looking for is really the best I can find. Honestly I can't ask for professional quality (even though I would love it) since I cannot offer money as of now. This is purely a hobby so hopefully I can find some modelers and texture artists who are as enthusiastic about this as I am.

I am looking for low-poly modelers. I really want to squeeze the best looking stuff out of the low-poly models as I can. So bring your best!

I will be using the .md2 model format and .tga format for textures. I am trying to keep the model poly count anywhere from 300-600, but I've done some quick calculation and we could even fudge and push it to 800-1000 polys depending on how nicely I can make the engine run. Texture sizes 64x64, 128x128, or 256x256 would all work nicely. I really would like to stay away from anything larger than 256x256 if possible.

Team structure:
There is no team as of now. I am the only coder. I find it gets messy the more people you. But this could easily change when the networking part comes into play. I am hoping to grow this team with at least 1 to 2 modelers/artists.

Website:
No website for this project. I don't want a lot of publicity. Getting mail bombed by overexcited n00bs isn't something I look forward to.

Previous Work by Team:
I've only done solo work. Anything you see on my website is done by me.

Additional Info:
Ok here is where I'm going to list the kinds of models and things I am looking for.
Nature
The warzones will look something like this (please remember these are just ideas to base levels and terrain on):

  • trees (pine)
  • trees (deciduous)
  • & more trees (I <3 trees!)
  • rocks
  • grass, foliage, flowers (these will be billboards, so I will only need textures)
  • stumps
  • fallen logs
Buildings/Structure/Misc
  • houses
  • shacks
  • cabins
  • middle eastern environment buildings
  • cement structures and compounds
  • sand bags
  • barbed wire
  • lamps and lamp posts
  • barricades made from logs and what not
  • fences (picket, palisade, chain, low stone and brick walls)
  • oil drums
  • container tanks
  • anything you would see in a war environment
Weapons
I'm not particularly looking for special ops weapons all decked out. I'm looking for character on these weapons. Guns with tape on them, or cloth to hide scopes and shiny parts on weapons. Anything that shows character or something you would see on the battlefield.

This is where you guys can get really creative and flexible. Anything with army cammo, desert cammo, fatigues, olive drabs, rags, scarves, army helmets, masks, you name it. I'm going for mujahedin fighters, rag tag soldiers. Think mercenaries, afgan soviet war stuff, whatever. Hopefully you get the picture.

Feedback:
Please, please, PLEASE, I would love to get some of the best help I can find here. Heck, I don't care if everyone wants to model and contribute. Community project would be cool as long as everyone sticks to the same art style. I know many/most have sick talent here from some of the threads I've looked through. I know very little about modeling. I am a programmers so any info/insight or feedback would be awesome. Really looking forward to replys. :)

Cheers!
