So I actually really like 2009s poly counter. Its nice that I can just hit 7, and it shows up in the corner and stays there, isnt a separate window that I have to drag out of the way or whatever. I also really like that it can show actual triangle count instead of just polys, and can show the selection and the total at the same time.
What I dont like is that it defaults to only Total Polys, and Total Verts (and FPS).
Anyone know if theres a way to change its default behavior? I hate that I have to constantly reset it as I go between files. Also, is there a way to tell it to default to on?

Don't know how to change the default behavior though on startup, would like to know that one myself
*edit Billabong, I been beaten again!
My problem is that every time I open a new file, I have to RE-SETUP the Statistics to show Triangles for my selection. I know I CAN, I'm wondering how to set it up so I don't have to do it every time.
Total Polygons is totally useless to me.
I appreciate the thought though.
thats how it works in max 9 anyway... i think
Thanks
Well, that's part of it. Maxstart.max works great for any NEW files I'm starting. . . but 90% of the time, I'm going back and editing someone else's old file. I know it's probably a "feature" that the settings for viewports and shit are all saved in the max file, but it drives me nuts. I want my settings to be saved in MY copy of max. :::grumble grumble:::
Thanks for trying guys.
I'm sure Zeboxx over at CGTalk maxscript forums has or could come up with a UI accessor script to do it (basically, a way to press UI buttons via script). I can check in a few days.
When I have an Unwrap UVW on my model, there are options for "Thick Seam Display" and "Thin Seam Display"
It defaults to Thick, which I find just clutters my view when I'm working on something small. It didn't used to default to this, but I can't find a way to switch it's default. Even the help file says it's the default.
Any ideas?
Fixed.
Anyways, to answer your question, set display to Thin seam display, then open the UVW editor by clicking Edit, there Options menu and Save current settings as default.
If you open up a NEW file, then load the old file from the max menu, I think that will retain your maxstart.max settings. Rather than just double clicking the file icon directly from the folder, it seems to work that way for me in max 9.
Micro - nope, I always open through file>open or recent files.
Edit: I love you Vik!
