Hi,
Working with max here. I have all the points welded for a particular object. Normals on some faces are flipped and some are not. I've come to the conclusion that the "Normal modifier" in max just stinks. The "Unify Normals" feature will not keep everything facing in one direction.
Does anyone know of a script that works better for this?

An ounce prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Turn off backface culling (right click > object properties) Warning effects performance...
Use the Symmetry modifier instead of the mirror tool.
Manually flip any faces that invert as you go using the flip tool in Edit poly > Polygon > Edit Polygons > Flip
I've seen a few Maya MEL scripts that crawl through meshes and flip inverted faces but I'm not sure if its ever been done for 3dsmax, would be shocked if it hasn't, no not really there's probably some broken arcane reason why...
