Anyone get on the early trial setup of the New Xbox Experience? Just got it installed on my 360, and liking it so far. The new setup's gonna take a bit to get used to navigating, but I like it already. Gonna dig up a game or two and toss 'em on the hdd.. probably fallout first cause I've gotten a few dirty disk errors lately with that.

Is the Community Games service up-and-running on the NXE yet? I wish I could see it. I have a non-game called Drift that should be a launch title. I can only hope that the occasional reviewer already has access to the games that have been approved so far. I can hardly wait till next Wednesday to see how NXE launched...
Plus I'm really hoping the NetFlix download service works nicely.

I'm really loving the hdd installation feature. GTA4 was near unplayable for me, getting dirty disk errors every 10 minutes or so. Now with it installed everything's running perfectly and fast too

Havent experienced (lol.) it yet but from the looks of it, I definitely prefer it over the existing (or old) one, which seems a little 13 year old forum-y.

Yeah I got in as well. Installed it last night. Pretty damn slick if you ask me. Love the new design.

Also it's from an older update but you can browse pics on your computer and set them as desktop images on the 360. I have some hot little piece of ass on mine. lol

But yeah nice new features. Seems much cleaner. Loving it.

It's neat. They definitely chose a pretty solid base set of avatar pieces for this initial release. It's nowhere near as crazy in-depth as the Nintendo Wii setup, but honestly I thought that was a little over-the-top. Looking forward to game-related stuff and all kinds of goodies to go with the avatars. I added a great shot of my avatar for my gamertag, but it doesn't appear to be showing up yet.

Also, if you're planning on storing games on the hdd, be sure to have plenty of space. Fallout took up about 6.5 gigs, and so will Gears 2. I'm already considering buying a 120 gig hdd. Also, this may finally get me to sign up for Netflix...

Yeah I picked up a 120 gig tonight. Haven't transfered everything yet or even installed it yet.

Figured I might as well for future use.

Plus now I can pick up an arcade system for my wife and she will have a hard drive

I have three.

One at home, one at my desk at work, and one that I've pretty much given to my friend to use on a permanent basis.

I just pop the hdd and any games I want to play and take them with me to work or my friend's place. Sure beats an integrated hdd or a memstick.

The first one I got was the Premium not long after it came out. About a year later I got the RRoD, but got fed up with dealing with their call-in tech support, so I bought a Basic one and just swapped the hdd over and stowed the Premium. When I started at Cryptic they gave me a Premium, so I had one at home and one at work. About that time I realized they'd added proper support to the xbox.com website, submitted my RRoD support request there, got a prompt "send it in", and gave one of the three when I got it back to my friend. All worked out.

ugh yeah with the ability to install stuff and me almost filling my 20gig just with RB songs... I'm gonna need a 120 and soon. bleh. you can transfer stuff over right? I can't imagine having to navigate to and select each one of the 300 dlc songs i have to re download. UGH.

yeah the 120gig comes with the transfer cable and cd. The 60gig doesn't. So get the 120gig.

Once transfered it wipes the old 20gig.

Easy process. Mine took about an hour or so.

I heard that the netflix service in general wasn't going to be available at launch? Is this still/true? It's one of the features I'm looking forward to the most.

What I'm curious about (with netflix), is will they start offering downloads as quickly as Blockbuster offers the media? I have not had a netflix account before, mainly because every time I consider signing up, they change their pricing schemes and scare me off. Anyway, a coworker told me that the downloadable movies are not usually new releases. I love the idea, but I'm still not willing the shell out a monthly fee for old movies.

updated my 360 this morning, i like the page flipping style of the menus but its lacking quick navigation, that is until you press the xbox button on the controller and a handy menu pops up.

Setup my Netflix account only to discover that you cannot browse the selection that is available on netflix from the comfort of the couch. Instead you have go to the "watch Instantly" section in Netflix on the computer and setup the movies that you want to watch on the xbox. Kind of a annoying since I thought the whole point of having Netflix on NXE was that we'd be able to freely browse whats available.

Movies come in a little pixelated in 1080p but its better waiting for them in the mail only some movies are in HD



Edit: After placing 12 movies into my Xbox queue 3 of them say "Not available on Xbox"

NXE just borked my Xbox. As soon as the thing was installed I got all kinds of artifacts on the screen, very similar to a Wii shortly before it dies.

I'm pissed. I get the same thing when I play a game as well so it's not just the dashboard.

That was sony pulled off columbia pictures support for only the xbox. You're able to stream those movies off other options, just not the 360. It's really a dick move on sony's part, pulling the movies off right before nxe launches even though they knew about netflix on the 360 for awhile now.

while I agree that it's a dick move, it goes to support why I want hard media. At least if I own the media, it can't be changed later by some dickwad company suing or making their own option.

Got it a few minutes after release at 5AM EST.
Pretty neat. Needs a lot of getting used to. We'll see in a few days/weeks how well I like it.

So far I'm most amazed that it was up on time.

Yeah, but you're renting it with Netflix.

It'd be like going to Blockbuster, and they wont rent you a movie because you have a Toshiba BluRay player instead of a Sony one.

My argument was MS expecting this downloadable media to be the winner, rather than offering a blu-ray add-on. I thought that was the real advantage of their setup. If HD-DVD failed (which it did), you could easily offer an external blu-ray (or whatever comes next).

Had some freezing when looking at friends, but after that things smoothed out.

Will take some getting used to, that's for sure. I really like the look of the pop-up menus, though. More steam-like, less bubbly gray shite.

It's ok, but I mean the only thing I am interested in, or was was Netflix. But I found out all you can do is setup movies on your PC, then go and choose them on your Xbox. The viewing with friends is interesting, but still idk.

Never know what microsoft will do. They might be working with netflix to let the user browse and setup a queue list.

Nice thing with the new dashboard is the fact that the games list doesn't reload each time. Plus the new dash is made for adding updates much easier than the previous setup, so we might be able to expect more updates instead of just fall and spring updates.

Seems like the Netflix360 is trying too hard, or something. It's not getting the same quality that I get from my set top Roku box. The interface is nicer on the 360, but it's trying to do something in the background that adds more strain on the interwebs.

Avatars are pretty neat, though. The avatar for Matabus is spot on. XD

It's not letting me install my games. It gives an error at like 3% saying it couldn't read, but I can fucking boot the game and play it!

Oh well. The dash is awesome besides that!

having major issues with streaming movies using Microsoft's own wireless adapter for the 360. Constant lag and connection issues. Its the first day of Neflix so hopefully these are just bugs being worked on.

For anyone thinking the avatar options are a bit limited at launch, Major Nelson's already said there's gonna be more within the next few months, and I wholly look forward to preorder bonus clothing bits and the like coming with future games.

I'm liking it so far just for the reduction of horrible grinding noises from the disc drive. Loading times don't seem to be greatly improved in Fallout 3, but at least I can hear it now without turning the volume up to earbleeding levels.
