apparently converts 2d image to 3d models then mixes the two to produce 3d imagery
(you need to download MS silverlite if you haven't done so already to view the video video gives you an idea on how its done.)

I went to that opeing they did at the gnome school. Was freaking awesome. Some of them had subtle movement, others full blown people jumping out at you.
Only problem is, you have to move left and right to see it lol. So, imagine a bunch of people strafing back and forth for like, 5 minutes a piece.
