easy way to get models "in-game"

I teach animation etc using 3ds max at a community college, and I would like to have my students make textured low-poly models as a project. It would be nice if there was some way I could get the objects into some game or virtual environment, so they can see how well they work, interact with them, etc.

Can anyone suggest a simple way to do this? It's only a one semester course wuith a lot of material to cover, so I don't want to get too complicated if possible...
