Maya 2008 Joint Tool

So Im trying to add joints to my character model on Maya 2008. I've done it before... but on this particular occasion the joints only want to draw to the X axis.

Is there a setting i might have accidentally switched? Or am I having a complete brain absence and not doing something simple? I've been trying to learn XNA programming the past week so my brain could simply just be fried.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

are u using a snapping hotkey? if so, are u snapping to a grid plane? ( is possible even if grid is not visible )

if yes use the v hotkey instead of x.
if no... try snapping with v anyway.

if still no good... remove yer preferences directory folder. and replace with the last saved environment that worked.

if u don't save preference snapshots regularly jes remove ( and perhaps back up ) preferences directory and Maya will load/build default environment.

if success.. then problem was a preference setting and or corruption. good luck.

Holding down V works... Its weird... i never remember having to hold down V... Snapping to grid is turned off too. Know of a way to make it automatically work without holding down V? I'll try that preference thingy later

    Thanks for the help!

sounds like you have snap to vert on, by holding down v you are toggling it off. toggle it off at the top, its the little magnet with a dot.

Haha I just saw that toggle at the top like 10 seconds before I read your post! Thanks :D
